Saqib Mahmood: "We just tried to pitch up and get the ball swinging and got rewards for it. It was great playing alongside so much English boys. Its good to get in the XI straightaway and the boys did really well."
Saqib Mahmood is the player of the match.

It's all over! An emphatic win for Sydney Thunder by 53 runs. They were put into bat by Heat  who won the bat flip and got a tremendous start in both the innings. Openers Matthew Gilkes  (28 off 22) and Alex Hales (35 off 26) added 55 for the first wicket in 5.5 overs.

Jason Sangha was promoted at number 3 and played a brilliant knock of 39 off 28 deliveries. The icing on the cake was wicketkeeper Sam Billings' performance both with the bat and behind the stumps. He scored 64 off 27 and made sure that the Thunder batters finish with a strong total of 196 for 7 despite losing quick wickets in the latter half of the innings.

Mitchell Swepson, Mark Steketee (making his comeback) and Xavier Bartlett chipped in with a couple of wickets each but everyone besides Swepson and Steketee was expensive. The Afghanistan mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was being looked as a threat which was well neutralized by the Thunder batters as he went wicketless and conceded 34 runs in his four overs.

The Thunder bowling attack comprising of BBL debutant Saqib Mahmood (4-22), Tanveer Sangha (3-26), skipper Chris Green (1-29) and Daniel Sams (1-30) started extremely well and kept on picking up wickets at regular intervals. Saqib Mahmood picked up 4 wickets in his first two overs as seven of the Heat batters were back in the hut by the ninth over of the innings.

Xavier Bartlett (42* off 29) showed some resistance but his knock was never going to be enough albeit with a healthy contribution from Tom Cooper, the x-factor who scored a quickfire 32 off 18. Brisbane Heat fell 53 runs short and bundled out for 143 with 15 deliveries remaining.

Sydney Thunder now has nine points to their name and have popped up at the third position in the points table. Brisbane Heat remains at the sixth spot with only six points to their name.
