So here it is, the Melbourne Stars ends up pocketing their first few points of the season by defeating the Sydney Thunders by 4 runs. Thank you so much for sticking to our coverage. This is Arijit Kundu with the review of the game and it's time to sign off alongside co-commentators Rohit Yadav and Rishab Gandhi. Do stay tuned for much more coverage coming up, only on onecricket and cricket exchange.
Player of the match: Nick Larkin
Nick Larkin (Player of the match): "Adam Zampa wanted to bowl the final over at all costs and he grabbed the ball from Maxi's hands. For most part of the chase, they were cruising but our bowlers held the nerves at the hand. I struggled for first 20 balls or so but power surge helped me a bit. We haven't met with Russell and Qais Ahmed yet (due to guidelines for Covid-19) but they bring lots of value for the team."
In reply, the Sydney Thunders lost early wickets in the mandate powerplay. Openers, Alex Hales, and Sam Whiteman were the ones to depart and they can only blame themselves for fancying around and getting beaten. Following this, Matthew Gilkes and Sam Billings carried the innings on their shoulder to bring things under control. Both the batter managed to jolt an 87 runs partnership just before Sam Billings holed one to Glenn Maxwell running in from deep extra cover. Dan Sams was the next to depart and that happened very soon within a space of 11 deliveries. These two wickets brought Stars under control.

Ben cutting and Alex Ross came to bat after the dismissals of Sams and Gilkes and both of them showed up a late cameo in the power surge from overs 17th to 19th. The duo failed to fetch 11 runs from the last over and Zampa was excellent in defending the total against the two pinch hitters. In the end, the Stars were clinical to defend 6 runs from the last 2 balls and ended on the winning side by a margin of 4 runs.
Earlier in the game, Sydney Thunder won the bat flip and chose to field first. The Thunders got the early breakthroughs after dismissing the openers, Joe Clark and Marcus Stoinis within the first five overs. They were successful in applying the brakes for the first 10 overs after young Tanveer Sangha knocked off the timbers of Glenn Maxwell. The Stars were 61-3  after 9.3 overs when Maxy got out. It was up to Nick Larkin and Hilton Cartwright to steady the ship from here on.
And they did exactly the same as both these men started slow, found the gaps, and pierced the gaps on regular intervals. The duo used the power surge to their advantage by opting for the powerplay after the 13th over. They managed to sum up 25 runs from the batting powerplay and the duo continued to carry the momentum and glue 80 runs to the stand. With some late cameo from Andre Russell, the Melbourne Stars managed to get 165 runs on the board.
What an excellent game of cricket here between the shades of green at the MCG. This has gone down the wire and in the end, it's the Melbourne Stars getting the edge over Sydney Thunders by just four runs.   Zampa celebrates the victory as if he has won the world cup for another time and the Stars bounce back with a victory after a thumping loss in their last game.
