After two Ashes Tests, the scoreline reads 2-nil but if the determination from Buttler and Woakes could join hands with the oozing class of Root and Malan, England's batting could stand shoulder to shoulder with their bowling department to challenge this Australian side. They will be looking to come stronger to make it 2-1 at the Boxing Day Test.

See you all on the other side. This is me, Arjun Bhalla signing off on the behalf of Anurag Dasgupta, Ninaad Dixit and Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay safe and get vaccinated. Buh-bye!
Arjun: Earlier in the Test, it was the efforts from Labuchagne, Warner and Smith that helped Australia to post a huge total of 473/9. During England's response, they only got one partnership from Malan and Root which showed them a way out - but then came the great English collapse where their Titanic sank from 150-2 to 236 all out conceding a lead of 237 runs.

After the first innings, the visitors were just playing the chasing game. Australia, after not pushing the follow-on, decided to take full toll on the guest bowlers. Despite losing three wickets early on Day 4, Labuchagne and Head went berserk to give England a target of 467 runs to chase.

The same problem repeated for England as they lost their top-four in twilight on the fourth day. The only ray of hope that looked for England was Stokes and Buttler. The Miracle Man couldn't repeat the heroics of Headingley at Adelaide, but the latter and Woakes showed the way how to bat against this strong Australia attack. Alas, as I earlier said, they could not avoid the inevitable.

Arjun: The Poms showed the spirit to win on this last day, but it just took 5.1 overs, in this session, for Australia to knock off England's remaining two wickets. The visitors came into this session with a lot of hope as Buttler's resilience with the bat to stand tall and dead batted almost everything that was thrown at him today.

His composed knock could only last sessions before he unfortunately got out hit wicket at the start of the third session. As he went back to the dressing room after that heart-breaking dismissal, Broad and Anderson were just walking wickets for the home team, as the latter nicked a bumper to gully.

Marnus Labuschagne:"We stuck it out, and Davey batted very well and put the pressure on the bowlers. I tried to absorb the pressure and if you have a combination like that out there, it hands us the advantage. I do a bit of self-talk, especially when I congratulated myself on playing the bouncer by Stokes, as opposed to the one before that I played poorly. We played well this Test match and didn't take our foot off the peddle. Getting my first Ashes ton was terrific and I was disappointed that I didn't make it a big one despite a few chances. I have played with Neser and played with Jhye in Shield cricket only weeks ago, and they have a unique set of skills - like Neser hits the stumps, for instance. It was great to have two bowlers out and still be able to dominate this Test match."
Marnus Labuschagne gets the Man of the Match for his two match-winning innings of 103 and 51 runs.
Steve Smith: "I wasn't nervous, but I have to admit that Root played well in the first innings. We wanted to stay calm as we knew that it'll take few good balls to get the wicket and the win. I enjoyed the captaincy and the lads played a really good game and controlled the proceedings right from day one. Marnus and Davey's partnership was crucial in the first innings and it set the tempo for us.

A special mention for Starc who bowled well and looked in great rhythm. The ball was swinging and he hit the line and lengths. Cameron Green was not supposed to bowl because we needed to manage his workload, but eventually we needed him as he has been so good for us. I have no idea about Hazlewood, but Harris has been batting well in the nets and we know he can turn it around."
Joe Root: "It was a rough day yesterday but I am fine. Much better today. I think when we look at ball in hand in particular, we could have bowled much fuller. We need to do more hard work with the ball. As long as you do that, you create chances. We made some mistakes four years back and we made the same mistakes here as well, lots of no balls, misfields. Someone like Woody (Mark Wood) has always something to offer, he is raring to go for the rest of the series. We need to be better in order to win.

The guys need to get themselves in for the first 20 balls and we are more than capable to do that and we have shown it in small packets that we can play well in these conditions. Its a kind of attitude that we have to carry out throughout the series what Buttler did today. His attitude today was brilliant and we need to do more like it. I expect him to have that mentality for the rest of the series."

Arjun: One of the most dramatic days has come to an end. England haven't been able to avoid the inevitable. The efforts from Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes went in vain as Australia stifled them. This match had so many, so many turns. It's been a roller-coaster of emotions for him really. However, the better team emerged as winners.

The last enthralling day saw the English batters showing grit, determination and will - for the first time in this Ashes. It was a sensational effort from Buttler who almost saw his team to a draw. Alas for them, despite all of that, they were outclassed in all three departments by this Australian side.

113.1 J Richardson to J Anderson
W Edged and taken at slip!! Five wicket haul for Jhye Richardson! Australia win!!! A huge victory by 275 runs!! What a comeback for Richardson in the Test XI! Comes in round the wicket, bends his back to pitch a bouncer, Anderson is uncomfortable, deep in the crease and jumps to fend it, gets an edge which carries to Cameron Green in the slip cordon!! Cameron Green owns the gully position! What a day and what an end to the Test match! Absolute scenes here at the Adelaide Oval! Australia go 2-0 up!
