So, that is it from me, Anurag Singh, and my co-commentators Anurag Dasgupta and Arjun Bhalla from the comm box. Tune in tomorrow at 5 PM IST for the 2nd ODI between England and Sri Lanka.
Kate Cross: It was a great feeling and the crowd was amazing too. Tried to bowl a tight line and it created pressure which led to the fall of few wickets in the middle. Credit to the other bowlers for creating pressure at the other end, that helped. You always want to play cricket. Every time you play for your country, you want to put your hand up and win games for the country.
Kate Cross gets the Player of the Match award for 5/34.
Heather Knight: Really pleased with the win. That partnership was outstanding and overall, a good game of cricket. I'm so happy for her (Cross). She has had a few up and down years. To bowl, the way she did was great to see. Our middle order hasn't had a lot of opportunities previously, so to see Sophia in that situation is really nice to see. Playing a matured hand. She is a wonderful ball-striker and is making that no.6 spot her own.
Harmanpreet Kaur: It wasn't a winning total. In ODIs, you need to get at least 250 to win games. We know our bowlers can win the game easily. Both the batters batted quite well and credits goes to Dunkley as she was impressive today. Well, we want to play at the highest level, the tournament still goes on for us.
The magical Sneh Rana got the wicket of Nat Sciver and England suddenly were one step behind India but not for long. Amy Jones and Sophia Dunkley tried to resurrect the chase but the partnership of 41 was broken by Poonam Yadav. Sophia Dunkley batting for the first time in the ODIs kept England in the chase along with Brunt with a crucial partnership for the 6th wicket. They brought on a valuable 50-run partnership together and the victory started to fade away from the Indian bowlers. Sophia Dunkley played an exceptional knock against a top-quality attack. She came in under immense pressure and delivered yet again. Katherine Brunt alongside the newcomer Sophie managed to finish up the task with just less than 3 overs remaining.
England started their chase very cautiously putting away the bad deliveries and showing respect to the good ones. A special delivery from Jhulan Goswami to get rid of a special batter, Tammy Beaumont completely changed things. She was soon followed by the England skipper who threw her wicket away to Poonam Yadav. Lauren Winfield continued to play her shots and frequently charge down the spinners. An inspired bowling change to bring in Shikha Pandey for her second spell paid dividends and India got the massive wicket of Winfield.
India were once again well short of the par score. Cross leads the team off, her five-for causing most of the damage after India started the innings strongly on the back of a fifty-partnership. A score of 250-260 would have been ideal. Mithali once again stood tall but again found little support. Verma nearly got 50, but then three quick wickets pegged India back, which included two from Cross. Cross, then collected three more off cross-batted shots attempted by the batters. Mithali Raj batted through most of the innings to get yet another ODI fifty and some big hits from Jhulan, and Poonam, however, gave India's bowlers something to defend.
And with this victory, England wins the series as they go 2-0 up in the three-match ODI series. They chase down this relatively small total quite comfortably in the end by 5 wickets with 15 deliveries still remaining and this tour so far has been dominated by England.
47.3 D Sharma to K Brunt
4 FOUR!!!! The party is over. England has sealed the deal, Katherine Brunt has sealed the deal and the series for the host side as they take the series 2-nil with a game still to go. Katherine Brunt finishes off in style. A touch short outside off, Brunt opens up her stance and clips this past mid-wicket to find the boundary in a slash! England win by 5 wickets.
47.2 D Sharma to S Dunkley
1 Flicks the length ball to long-off for a single and THE SCORES ARE LEVEL NOW!
47.1 D Sharma to S Dunkley
2 A brace for England. Two remaining now. Fuller delivery outside off and she paddles it down to fine leg for a double
