The BCB President Nazmul Hossain presents the trophy to the winning Bangladesh team. So that's it from the commentary box. Nice to be back in the comm box after a while. Ta-ta and goodnight from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentators Anurag Singh and Arjun Bhalla. Before leaving an important message for all of you. These are tough times for all of us. We have to fight this together and beat this virus. Stay home and stay safe. Keep masked up whenever you go outside and get vaccinated whenever you get a chance.
Kusal Perera, losing captain- We needed a win badly, although we lost the series. Once I get set, I like to bat deep. That's why I batted like that (more calculated manner). I took my chances early, me and Gunathilaka. But after that, we needed to get the big scores and that's why I shifted gears. Our bowling department did a really good job. Fielding was also good. Only concern was the batting in the first two games. Got that corrected today.
Mushfiqur Rahim- I think the boys did a great job, they worked really hard for this series. Last couple of months we haven't played our best cricket but luckily we executed our plans well in the first two games. Unfortunately we couldn't finish it off on a high. Playing international cricket for 15+ years, you need to contribute more and more for your country and that's what I try to do each game. Sri Lanka are not an easy side to play against, they never give up and come hard. I really enjoyed (the pressure). Whenever there is pressure or expectation, I try to stay calm. I know the opponent might also think I'm a big player, that gives me an edge.
Mushfiqur Rahim is the Player of the Series for showing sheer consistency in the first two matches and helping his side win from crunch situations.
Dushmantha Chameera- Very happy with the way I bowled. Good performance on a comeback. Was not under pressure coming into this series. Pleased with the role I'm playing for Sri Lanka and how I'm bowling.
Dushmantha Chameera is the Player of the Match for his astonishing spell of hostile fast bowling.
Tamim Iqbal- As I said at the end of the last game and beginning of this game, we have won the series but I thought we never played a complete game. We didn't play to our potential in this series. After winning the series, I can tell you there are a few areas to work on. They had a very attacking mindset coming into this game and we helped them do that. We bowled too short. We didn't grab our opportunities, missed two catches at important times, and could have probably got 30 runs less to chase. Dependency on seniors is a worry. It is, but I am someone who keeps believing in youngsters. I don't point fingers at them, because I know how hard they try. If they perform we will become a better team but it's always easy to criticise. I'm not someone who will criticise my own players. There are lots of things I want to achieve individually and as a leader of this team.
Tamim Iqbal to have a chat with Roshan Abeysinghe.
It's time for the Post-Match presentation
Arya: Dhananjaya de Silva struggled his way to a half-century and finally managed to get some going during the final overs. Wickets kept tumbling at the other end as the Bangladesh bowlers managed to claw their way back into the game. Taskin finished with four wickets and managed to restrict Sri Lanka to 286.
Arya: The early carnage was neutralised as the Bangladesh bowlers stormed their way back into the match. Kusal Perera played a brilliant knock and while this wasn't one of those knocks where he smashed everything out of the park, it was more for the team who badly needed a win under their belt. He reassured the selectors for electing him as the captain and led from the front going against his natural attacking approach. The southpaw completed a well-deserved century as the Lankan innings revolved around his batsmanship.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was the Sri Lankan captain Kusal Perera who won the toss and opted to bat. With the series already lost, the Lankans came out all guns blazing and raced off to 77 in the first 10 overs. Both Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka looked in fine touch and made full use of the fielding restrictions. Both looked in complete command until a break in concentration brought about the downfall of Gunathilaka. One brought two as Taskin soon removed Pathum Nisanka with a brilliant delivery shaping away from the right-handed batsman.
Arya: Mahmudullah waged a lone battle as wickets kept falling at the other end. He played the waiting game to perfection and found the boundaries in perfect junctures. However he never got any support and played for a lost battle. Chameera came back for his second spell and bagged two in an over which proved to be the final nail in the coffin. In the end it was a convincing 96 runs victory for the visitors who were hoping badly to finish off the series on a high.
Arya: Dushmantha Chameera's fiery opening spell put the Bangla Tigers on the back foot right from the word go. After the wicket of Mohammad Naim, it was the turn of Shakib Al Hasan as he was bounced out by a well-directed bouncer. In came Mushfiqur Rahim to join Tamim Iqbal and the duo looked to get the run-chase back on track. Tamim played some delightful shots before perishing cheaply. They looked down and out but it was Rahim and Mosaddek Hossain who tried to resurrect the chase and looked in good shape. However, the law of averages are bound to catch up someday and it happened today as Rahim fell for a well crafted 28. A rush of blood brought about his downfall and it proved to be a decisive nail in the coffin.
Arya: It proved to be a way too steep target for the hosts as the Lankans registered a comprehensive 96 runs victory to end the series on a high. It turned out to be a complete performance from the young Sri Lankan unit who were outplayed in the last two matches. They had their moments but managed to seize those today.
Arya: Finally the Lankans have something to salvage from the series. Bangladesh will be disappointed with their showing today but will gain heart from the fact of beating Sri Lanka for the very first time in a bilateral series.
42.3 B Fernando to Mahmudullah
W That's the end of the match. Slower back of a length delivery and Mahmudullah sits on his knees and tries to ramp this over the keeper. Ends us getting a glove and lobs up straight in the air and Niroshan Dickwella completes a regulation catch. The debutant picks a wicket and a comprehensive victory for the Lankans.
42.2 Binura Fernando to Mahmudullah
4 FOUR!!!! Fullish length outside off and Mahmudullah carves this away past the point fielder and off it goes to the boundary ropes. A well-deserved half-century from the experienced campaigner.
