Earlier in the day, the Netherlands won the toss and decided to bat first. The conditions were testing and Ireland bowlers weren’t shy of pushing the opposition on the backfoot. Right from the start of the first innings, the Dutch batsmen found it difficult to get going. McCarthy and Young bowled with some control to suppress the Dutch under pressure while Little managed to reap the benefits out of it. Courtesy of that marvelous bowling performance, Ireland needed a paltry of 158 runs to chase down and square off the series.

Arjun: Ireland had a mere total of 158 runs to chase, but the Netherlands defended 195 runs, the other night. The ball was doing the talking in the initial stages, and gripping in the middle overs, but Paul Stirring was in some mood. Despite losing his opening partner, Porterfield, soon in the response, the most consistent Irishman took the toll on the Dutch bowlers. Stirring scored his 25th ODI fifty, also his fifth 50-plus in 2021. When the Dutch skipper took the heartthrob’s wicket, the game wasn’t over for the hosts. However, in the end, a soothing stand of 67 runs between Balbirnie and Tector took them home.

Ireland has finished the game with seven overs to spare. Andrew Balbirnie takes them home in some style, in the end, the visitors have won by Eight Wickets.
