That brings us to the end of our coverage for today. Before leaving a very important message to all of you from the family of OneCricket. These are very difficult times for every indian. The medical system has been jolted severely and the panick has set in. But it is important for all of us to fight this pandemic together. Stay home, if you have to go outside wear your masks properly, maintaining social distancing is of utmost importance and as and when you are eligible get yourself vaccinated. Till tomorrow's encounter between KKR and RCB it's ta-ta and good night from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my fellow mates Kingshuk Kusari and Akshay Bhide.
Mayank Agarwal, Punjab Kings skipper and Man of the Match- KL Rahul is going for a surgery and hopefully he should be back. Would've liked two points but I guess we were about 10 short on that wicket. And the kind of powerplay they had we really had to scrap and fight. One batsman has to bat through, that was my plan. It was my day, I took that responsibility. Unfortunately we didn't get too many in the middle overs, even though we finished well. Would have loved two points more than anything else. But it is what it is. We have to shut this off, turn up next game and do better. Managing the ups and downs is what captaincy's all about. Kudos to Harpreet who showed up for us today and last game as well, he also hit a crucial boundary. We need to keep at it and click as a team.
Despite being on the losing side, Mayank Agarwal is the Man of the Match.
Rishabh Pant, DC skipper: I think Shikhy bhai and Prithvi gave us a very good start, that's why the innings looked much better. The first innings it was really gripping. The way they started was commendable. It feels so good when you have a great start each and every match with a mixture of youth and experience. You can see that everyone is doing so well around them. Most things are sorted out but we need to try out a few options for the Kolkata matches. The competition in the team is very good. When you see, there is a lot of gun bowling that we have. I'm enjoying everyday, using my experience, using the seniors around me. We are trying to make an environment where everyone feels good.
It's time for Alan Wilkins to have a discussion with DC skipper Rishabh Pant.
Mayank Agarwal bags one more award. He is also the Upstox Most Valuable Asset of the Match. Gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Kagiso Rabada is the Cred Powerplayer of the Match. Gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Mayank Agarwal again bags the Unacademy Let's Crack it Sixes Award. Gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Mayank Agarwal is the Dream11 Game Changer of the Match. Acquired 141 fantasy points. Gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Prithvi Shaw is the Safari Super Striker of the Match. Gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Steve Smith bags the Vivo Perfect Catch of the Match Award. Gets a Vivo Phone and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Time for the presentation ceremony with Alan Wilkins.
Shikhar Dhawan is new Orange Cap holder- Absoultely, really happy the way we chased down the score. Again myself and prithvi gaves us a great start. Then Smith chipped in nicely, I knew I had to stay their till the end. It was a perfectly crafted run-chase. The way Shimron is hitting the ball is amazing. I am glad to up the strike rate. It's always great to get the strike rate up and the award as well. These sort of wickets are getting easier. There was no dew today and it helped the spinners a bit. I really enjoyed batting with Prithvi, has made it easier for me with the way he has striking the ball. I try to stick to my plans, there was nothing to do for me last match but this match I knew that if I was on top of some bowler I need to cash on so that it gets things easier for the next over.
Arya: Mayank suddenly changed to the fifth gear and started belting the DC bowlers all around the park. He smacked 23 runs in the final over of Avesh Khan to get Punjab to a score of 166 runs. Mayank fell just one run short of a well-deserved century and smacking a couple of fours and a six. In the end, the score didn’t prove to be enough.
Arya: In came Chris Gayle and after smacking Kagiso Rabada for a huge six over deep square leg he had to depart courtesy a fast out swinging full toss. The stumps went for a cartwheel and the Punjab Kings were right on the backfoot. A partnership of 52 runs with Dawid Malan resurrected the innings but the southpaw found it difficult to play the big shots and had to eventually depart of the bowling of Axar Patel.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was Rishabh Pant who won the toss and opted to bowl. In the absence of KL Rahul, it was Mayank Agarwal who captained the team. He led from the front and carried his bat through the innings to remain unbeaten on 99. Prabhsimran Singh came out to open the innings with Mayank and after a lusty blow had to depart.
Arya: On the other end, Rishabh Pant smashed a few lusty blows before departing with DC within touching distance of the victory target. In the end, Shimron Hetmyer smashed some lusty blows to seal the deal for the Capitals. He remained unbeaten on 16 of 4 deliveries which included a four and a couple of sixes.
Arya: Following Shaw’s dismissal. Dhawan took the onus on himself to play the big shots while Steve Smith played second fiddle. Dhawan got able support from the former RR skipper and a partnership of 48 runs got DC close. Dhawan played some delightful shots and kept some special treatment for Ravi Bishnoi. He never really allowed the young leggie to settle in and smashed him for plenty.
Arya: Chasing a target of 167 runs, the Delhi Capitals got off to a brisk start courtesy of some exceptional strokeplay yet again by Prithvi Shaw. He carried on from where he left the other day but was dismissed by a peach of a delivery from Harpreet Brar. A partnership of 63 runs in a shade over 6 overs set the platform for the run-chase.
Arya: It turns out to be a rather one-sided encounter as the Delhi Capitals chases down the target of 168 runs with utmost ease in the end against the Punjab Kings to return victorious in the 29th match of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. Shikhar Dhawan continues his dream run with the bat and again plays a stellar role in DC going to the top of the points table.
