That's it from the commentary box folks. Before leaving there is an important message for the viewers of OneCricket. We are going through very difficult times and we need to stand with each other in this pandemic. Stay safe, wear your masks whenever you are going out, wash and sanitize your hands regularly and don't forget to get vaccinated as and when you are eligible. In this way we will be able to beat the virus together. Till the next time it's ta-ta and goodnight from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my fellow commentators Sourya Chowdhury and Akshay Bhide.
Prithvi Shaw, Man of the Match- I wasn't thinking of hitting the first ball for a boundary. I was just waiting for the loose deliveries, I exactly knew where Mavi would bowl to me as I have played with him for four five years. I was prepared for the short ball in the first over as the first four deliveries was half-volleys but unfortunately he didn't bowl that bouncer and I didn't have to hit. I felt on this wicket especially when the spinner is bowling the ball was not coming onto the bat. I was waiting for them to bowl at me outside the off stump and that was the plan. When I am in there, when I thnk I am getting good touch I don't really care about myself and just want my team to win. If I get a chance to speak with Viru sir I will definitely have a chat. I feel that my dad has supported me in this condition. After getting drop from Australia tour I was not happy that what I was doing. My dad said that if talent is not working you need to work hard for your success. Lot of failures are bound to come.
Rishabh Pant, DC captain- I think Prithvi Shaw is a very talented player and if you give him the chance he will deliver. In the break I told Prithvi you just play your game and finish the game for us. In these kind of matches, we can afford to think of the run-rate as the match was almost done by the 12th 13th over. All I tell Avesh Khan is to enjoy his game and concentrate on your game and the rest will be taken care of,. Lalit Yadav hasn't got chances with the bat much but whenever he gets a chance he will perform. I am loving the captacinty and if the result keeps going your way it's just the icing on the cake.
Prithvi Shaw is back again. He is also the Upstox Most Valuable Asset of the Match. Gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh. When you play like that you are bound to collect all the trophies.
Prithvi Shaw is also the Cred Powerplayer of the Match. 48 of 16 balls in the powerplay, bags a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Andre Russell gets the Unacademy Let's Crack it Sixes Award. Four sixes for Russell ,collects a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Prithvi Shaw is also the Dream11 Game Changer of the Match. 117 fantasy points and he gets a trophy and cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Prithvi Shaw is the Safari Super Striker of the Match. Scored 82 of 40 deliveries. Bags a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Steve Smith bags the Vivo Perfect Catch of Match Award for his stunning catch to dismiss Eoin Morgan. Gets a Vivo phone and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Time for the Post-Match Presentation with Harsha Bhogle.
Shikhar Dhawan is the New Orange Cap holder- Prithvi was playing amazing cricket and it was lovely to watch him in full flow from the other end. I didn't take many risks as he was playing so well. I don't have to compare with Prithvi, have to play according to the situation. Absoultey I have made conscious effort to improve my strike rate which my teams need. I have become smart enough to understand when to take risk and when to play the second fiddle. Had a conversation with Harsha Bhogle, I enjoy taking smart risks rather than sticking to the same process. Some times it comes off, sometimes it doesn't. Amazing playing under Ricky's coaching. He makes sure that he takes good care of the players and I really appreciate that thing about him.
Eoin Morgan, KKR skipper- Very disappointed, very slow off the blocks and then lost wickets in crucial periods and it was Russell who got us over the 150 mark. When Prithvi Shaw plays like that you don't have any options but to sit and admire. We were off in both facets of the game and if we give some many opportunities to Delhi Capitals they will lash on. Mavi bowled brilliantly in the previous day and finished off his quota at a stretch so we though of going with him. Cummins was definitely in the plan but some day it doesn't go your way. It has been a learning curve for the guys in the changing room and we start to execute our plans now. We have talent but we need to turn talent into performance which is not happening at this moment.
Arya: KKR was nowhere close to where they should have been at the end of 16 overs but it was some sensational hitting by Andre Russell in the final overs which took KKR over the 150 mark. He looked in ominous touch towards the fag end of the innings and remained unbeaten on 45 of 27 deliveries which included 2 fours and 4 sixes. In the end, the score of 154 proved to be way too less.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was Pant who won the toss and opted to bowl. Yet again KKR faltered right away not managing to find the gaps in the powerplay. It was some good hitting by KKR in the final two overs of the powerplay which took them to 45. It was a steady start but some quick wickets got DC back on top. Tripathi, Morgan and Narine were dismissed in quick succession as KKR slipped to 75/4. Gill didn’t manage to get going and despite playing a few delightful shots he could only muster 43 of 38 deliveries.
Arya: Dhawan on the other hand, took his time and manoeuvred the ball to perfection and gave more of the strike to Shaw. He was eventually dismissed by Pat Cummins with DC within touching distance of the victory target. Shaw took gave away his wickets on 82 but DC was smelling victory by then.
Arya: With KKR down and out in the first over, Morgan needed to give the ball to the experienced Pat Cummins but he went for Prasidh Krishna and the two spinners which didn’t work. Being the most experienced bowler and the No 1 Test bowlers, Cummins should have been given the ball and by the time he was introduced Prithvi Shaw’s blazing strokeplay had almost sealed the deal for DC.
Arya: The target of 155 was certainly below-par and KKR needed some early wickets to have any realistic chance of winning the contest. Prithvi Shaw became the second batsman in IPL to smash six boundaries of an over. It was class personified as Prithvi Shaw didn’t break a sweat and collected 25 runs from the opening over. It was pure classical cricketing shots and it was questionable bowling from Mavi. He kept on bowling full and Prithvi Shaw kept hitting it to the boundary ropes.
Arya: It turns out to be a cakewalk for the Delhi Capitals in the end. What a thoroughly convincing victory for the runners-up from the previous edition as they storm past the Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets and with deliveries 21 deliveries to spare in the 25th match of the competition. The night belonged to Prithvi Shaw as he blazed away to a stunning and shared a magnificent stand of 132 runs with Shikhar Dhawan to blunt the chase in the powerplay itself.
16.3 Prasidh Krishna to Marcus Stoinis
4 Four. Game over, full inswinger, Stoinis gets an inside edge to that ball on middle to find the fine leg fence. Comprehensive win completed.
16.2 Prasidh Krishna to Marcus Stoinis
0 Leg cutter back of a length outside off, beats the edge
