Sourya: So Delhi are up to second with that win and Punjab are second from bottom, but a lot of cricket is still left. Things are just heating up. It is time for me, Sourya Chowdhury, to bid adieu along with my colleagues Arjun Bhalla and Arya Sekhar Chakraborty. A very good night.
Shikhar Dhawan: It was a conscious effort from my side (to increase SR) and I started taking more risks. I'm not afraid of changes. I'm always open towards changes and I make sure I give it a good try in the nets and then in the games. I'm not scared of getting out as well. I've worked on the leg-side shots, coming in the crease, using the pace of the bowler. Depends who's bowling and what plans I make for them. My slog shot has improved. It was there before as well, but now it's [more frequent]. I'm very relaxed these days. If I'm not relaxed at this time, then when?! I'm relaxed but also attentive. Love batting with Shaw, we made a huge impact and that was great for our team.
Rishabh Pant: I've already started enjoying the captaincy but we were under pressure at the start because the wicket was not doing much and they had a good start. Good job by our bowlers to keep them to 190. There are many things you can talk to with Shikhar but end of the day what he's given to the team is commendable. I like to keep the environment light so that people enjoy their cricket and make the most of their opportunities.
Sourya: That brilliant innings full of artistry, power and innovation fetches Dhawan both the man of the match award and the Orange Cap
Stoinis: At the 10-over mark we were trying to keep them under 250! (In a lighter vein) the cliches of cricket, the good partnerships to leave it for the finishers at the end. Shikhar's brilliant, he's carried on his form from last year. He's always hungry and he's backed it up from last season. It's important as an indiivudal to get into the tournament early. The start of the tournament is when you can try a few things. As of eight games in, every game feels like it's a final. So we think by 5-6-7 games we need to have everyting sorted. [With his bowling] wasn't required tonight but it is a work in progress and we'll all be required.
KL Rahul: Victory would've been sweet on my birthday. Slightly disappointing but we've still got a lot of games left. In the end when you look at it, it does looke 10-15 short. But I felt batting in the middle 196 was really good. The first half Mayank and I were saying the same, that we'd be good if we got 180-190. But obviously at Wankhede there's dew and credit to Dhawan. Dew did sway things, bowling second's always a challenge at Wankhede. We always try to prepare for such conditions but it does get difficult in the situations. I think it would be fair [the ball changes every two overs, Doull's suggestions] and I'm not just saying that because I'm on the losing side. I did ask the umpires to change the ball a couple of times but that's not in the rules.
Sourya: The Capitals put the Kings in and a dream opening stand between known suspects Mayank Agarwal and captain KL Rahul gave rise to hopes of something like 220 after the first 10. But when Mayank Agarwal, who played some delectable strokes on his way to 69, holed out in the deep, the scoring slowed appreciably. Rahul again got out at the wrong time and his 61 came from 51, he really needed to get into the next gear when he got out. The Universe Boss also failed, so did another swashbuckling West Indian Nicholas Pooran, and some late hitting by Deepak Hooda ensured 195 which was under par in the circumstances
Sourya: But Shikhar Dhawan played a genius knock tonight, some of his shots were audacious, some pure stuff of pure ethereal beauty as he romped to 92 of 49 and just missed out on a deserved century. 13 fours were hit by the master from Delhi and he set up an opening wicket partnership of 59 within six with Prithivi Shaw beginning the assault before getting out. Though Steve Smith struggled and got out early and Risabh Pant only made 15, the Dhawan juggernaut and some late dominance from Marcus Stoinis got them home comfortably. Jhye Richardson got two wickets for the Kings but went for 41, and Mohammed Shami was taken to the cleaners as he gave up an astonishing 53 runs with all the bowlers suffering from the Gabbar's wrath tonight. Yes, bowling second was tough with the dew around, but there can be no excuses for the display tonight, especially with poor lengths and extras mounting.
Sourya: So an amazing, almost deceptively easy run chase has been pulled off by Delhi Capitals tonight as they reach 198/4 in 18.2 overs in pursuit of the 195/4 put up by Punjab Kings to win by six wickets. It was a belter of a wicket but still, with 195 on the board, KL Rahul and co would not have expected to be hammered this way.
18.2 Riley Meredith to Marcus Stoinis
4 Four. That's it, Short inept ball and Stoinis just pulls it calmly into the vacant mid-wicket fence one bounce. Easy does it
18.1 Riley Meredith to Lalit Yadav
1 Pulls that slower short one with a lot of flourish into the air but it will only be one to mid wicket
18.1 Riley Meredith to Lalit Yadav
4nb FOUR! Wide full toss, high over waist and thus not legal, cut away to the point fence. This is ending quickly
