Milestone
Well that's it from the first game of the doubleheader Sunday as RCB beats KKR by 39 runs in the M.A Chidambaram Stadium and tops the table with six points. Hope you all enjoyed the coverage. This is Arijit, signing off along with my co-commentators, Nikhil Kulkarni and Akshay Bhide. Tune in to the live coverage for the second game of the day to be held between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
Arriving to chase down a big total of 205, KKR openers looked to provide a flying start. Subhman Gill was really creaming boundaries in the offside region but soon got caught at mid on of the bowling of Kyle Jamieson. Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana were looking good too but neither of them could convert into a bigger score. The middle-order of KKR looked slightly better than the other day, but not at their very best. Dinesh Karthik went dismissed to a silly lbw, Eoin Morgan could continue only till 29 and Shakib Al Hasan too fell short at the '20s. The RCB bowler's were simply brilliant with their execution as they managed to knock wickets on regular intervels. In the end, KKR needed 44 runs from 12 deliveries with Andre Russel finding some confidence in the middle of the bat. But this is where the chasing team collapsed. Mohammed Siraj banged 5 dot balls on a row to Andre Russel who was batting at 30 and this is where the run-chase seemed next to impossible. Soon Harshal Patel closed the game after knocking Dre Russ in the final over and restricting the Kolkata based franchise to 166-8 after 20 overs.
Earlier in the afternoon, Virat Kohli was lucky enough to win the toss on a rare occasion and he chose to bat first. They were put under pressure straight away when Varun Chakraborty striked twice in his first over within the powerplay. He scalped the wicket of Kohli and Patidar and RCB was put short to 9-2 after 2 overs. Paddikal and Maxwell started gearing slowly and tried to glue a partnership. They took the team to 45-2 after the powerplay and from then they started accelerating more faster. After cranking few shots, Paddikal fled for 27 of 29. Following this, Ab de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell tore the KKR bowlers apart. They smoked sixes and fours on all parts of the ground to register a total of 204-4 in 20 overs. Maxwell went to score 78 of 49, blazing 3 sixes and 9 fours while De Villiers remained not out for 76 after facing just 34 deliveries with the same six to four ratio that of Maxwell. Among the wicket-takers, Varun Chakraborty scalped two and Prasidh Krishna and Pat Cummins ended up with one wicket each. All the bowlers turned out to be expensive with Prasidh Krishna the most economical one, conceding just 31 runs from his 4 overs and picking up a wicket of Devdutt Paddikal.
When you have 200 runs on the board, you always have the mental side of the game towards you and RCB just capitalised it throughout their execution. Though KKR started off well, they fell short of 39 runs in the end. Somewhere, from inform Nitish Rana to skipper Eoin Morgan, most of their batsman went dismissed going to play the big shots out of pressure. On the other side, one has to admire the way how RCB bowlers regulated the defence. The bowlers didn't let any KKR batsman settle and despite going for runs at intervals, they managed to put the KKR batters trod back to the pavilion.

1 Siraj seals the game! Full toss on middle and leg, Russell plays this one towards long on and finally takes a single to keep the strike but it's too late in the game
18.5 Mohammed Siraj to Andre Russell
0 Bangs in short just down the leg side and Russel moves across and tries to pull this one but ducks under it
Arijit: Absolutely Akshay!! The way Siraj has developed into a t20 bowler is simply remarkable.
Akshay: This is brilliant execution from Siraj. Russell hasn't managed to get under it.
18.4 Mohammed Siraj to Andre Russell
0 An excellent over from Siraj. Bowls in almost an yorker again outside off, Russell again couldn't get that away. Digs this one out to deep cover
