So that is it from game number 17 of the hundred. This is Arijit Kundu with the coverage alongside Anurag Singh. We shall be back with more live-action soon and yes, do make sure to tune into onecricket for the 1st test between India and England slated to begin tomorrow. Until then, goodbye and take care.
David Willey(Man of the match): I haven’t contributed much so far. So it’s nice to contribute today. It (captaincy) is a great responsibility to have, a nice bunch of guys and it’s nice to win today. The first two games, we made some small mistakes that cost us. The guys have worked hard and we have corrected it. My goal is to stay fit and enjoy my cricket. Every team has some fantastic cricketers.
Man of the Match: David Willey.
Just when the duo looked a bit settled in their stay, Reece looped a catch straight down the throat of long-off and gave away his vital wicket. This saw the start of the flurry. The Supercharger bowlers kept bagging wickets and pierce them with pressure from here on. In the end, the Spirits ended the run chase with 64 runs short of what was required. Skipper Eoin Morgan was the highest scorer with 27 runs from 22 deliveries. Ben Raine was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets from his 20 balls. Each one of David Willey, Adil Rashid, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman went onto pick two wickets. It's worth mentioning that this loss might see the Spirits give up on their hopes of qualification as their hunt for victory in the tournament still continues,
Coming to the run-chase, Spirits got the early blow as they lost both of their openers in a space of one delivery. Skipper, David Willey was simply the best with the ball in hand as he bagged the early breakthroughs for the Superchargers. He was getting the ball to move and bowled sixty percent of the powerplay overs. Luis Reece and Eoin Morgan were in charge of steadying the ship and glued a 44 runs stand together. The combo really looked deadly as they smoked few sixes and fours at either end of the ground.
Although Brooks could not continue with his good knick, he added 28 runs to the partnership of 62. Following this, Willey showcased what he could do with the bat. The bowlers tested him with every kind of delivery but nothing could stop him from boosting the total to a stupendous 155 in 100 balls. Willey registered the highest individual score in a match in the hundred tonight by scoring an unbridled 81 from just 45 deliveries. His innings saw him boasting 6 sixes and three boundaries. Vilas assisted him with a handy 22 of 16 deliveries to offer the Spirits a target of 156.
Earlier in the match, Superchargers had won the toss and opted to bat first. They lost both their openers quite early after some exploits from Chris Lynn in the first over. But the decision of going with spinners early worked well for Morgan as Nabi outsmarted a shimmying Lynn with a wider delivery to get rid of him. Adam Lyth was the next one to get dismissed. And just then, when the Spirits looked in a commendable position, David Willey and Harry Brooks denied in their execution. Both of them blunted the new ball by hovering sixes and fours all over the park.
Lack of spirit from the London Spirits as they failed to close out a victory against the side which was reeling at the bottom of the table. 155 on the board always looked like a more than par score in these conditions and the Northern Superchargers have proved all of us right.
