That's all we have from a depressing day. Ta-ta and goodnight from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentator Anurag Dasgupta.
Joe Root, England skipper and Man of the Match- The weather disrupted what would have been a very interesting final day. Great Test match to play in and watch as well. Sets up the series really well and hopefully we can take it into the next games. We certainly believed we could win. We knew we would have opportunities if we took our catches and kept our fields. It's a shame it ended this way. There are certain areas where we want to get better in. We want to get better at the top of the order and take our catches. We need strong characters. We want to keep that enthususiasm in, it is fun scoring runs and a fun game. Really relishing the opportunities in front of us. We have to deal with till the schedule changes and the setup changes. The experienced guys have it easier going from white ball to Test cricket, but the youngers guys might not have that experience. It must be quite challenging for our youngsters, but that's no excuse. To finally get to my century was a relief given how I played throughout the day. I think India have a very good seam attack and credit to them for the way they bowled. I just wanted to put the pressure back on them with a few shots. Certainly feel full of confidence on the back of that.
Virat Kohli, India captain: We were expecting rain on days three and four but it chose to come on day five. It would have been enjoyable to play and watch, but it's a shame. This is exactly what we wanted to do; start strong. On day five we knew we had our chances. We certainly felt like we were on top of the game. Getting that lead was crucial, but it's a shame we couldn't finish day five. Getting to fifty overnight was important. We just didn't want to play for survival. Our intent kept us ahead. It's hard work of three odd weeks for our bowlers with the bat. We were talking of a lead of 40-odd but we ended up with 95 and those runs were gold dust. Most likely this will be our template in this series, but adaptability has been our strength. The conditions and the pace on the wicket needs to be seen, but this team will be our template. England and India have always been a blockbuster, and looking forward to the next Test.
Arya: Such a fascinating Test match and that's not the final day you would have ever imagined. We will be back for the presentation which is expected to be under umbrellas.
It's been a long long wait for all of us and finally the inevitable has arrived. Such a shame to be honest.
So that's it, match has been abandoned.
Chuck the previous update folks. It has yet again started to rain.
Early tea has been taken.
Update | 08:05 PM IST- Some good news folks. Rain has stopped. Cheteshwar Pujara going out to have a bat in the nets. Keep your fingers crossed, we might still have some action later on in the day.
Update | 7:45 PM IST- No news as of now as it continues to be gloomy and dark. Just as I mentioned earlier we will be lucky to get any play today. Will be back as and when we have some (good) news.
Update | 7:30 PM- It is looking extremely gloomy. We will be very lucky to witness any action today. The rain prediction for the next two hours has increased rapidly and we might be in for a full washout. Such a shame after witnessing such an intriguing game in the last four days.
DG: Call me crazy, but I don't think we'll get a game today. So pack your bags and go home everyone. Not even an ideal weather to play football.
Update | 6:55 pm IST: No no no. The drizzle is back. Such a dampner for all the fans across the globe. Don't think we will have an inspection at 7.
Update | 6:40 pm IST: The rain has stopped completely and there will be an inspection at 7 pm IST.
Update | 6:20 pm IST: Okay, so the latest news from Nottingham is that the rain has eased up a bit. Time for the Super Soppers to do their magic.
DG: Despite losing an entire session to rain, the play can actually be extended till 12:00 am IST. So we still have plenty of time left. Just hope the weather clears out.
Update | 6:00 pm IST: Same old news. The rain god clearly is angry with all of us.The umbrellas are out and things look bleak at the moment.
Arya: As the day progresses, chances of rain decreases quite a bit. So don't go away we could be still in for a fascinating 3 hours of play.
Update | 5:30 pm IST: I am back with more bad news. It is still raining in Nottingham. So don't expect the play to resume anytime soon.
DG: Even if we do get a game today, the overcast conditions are favourable for the England pacers. And we know a certain guy named Jimmy Jimmy who can take full advantage of the conditions. Beware, team India!
