So that's all from here folks. Like always it was a joy bringing the live commentary and match updates for you though it wasn't the way I was hoping to finish. So adieus from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty, my fellow commentator Akshay Bhide and our "Analysis Expert" Arjun Bhalla. Good night and stay tuned for the mount watering playoffs.
The Women's T20 Challenge will start from tomorrow. Some of the world's best T20 players will be out on display.
So our playoffs schedule is decided. The Mumbai Indians will lock horns against the Delhi Capitals in Dubai on Thursday while RCB will lock horns against SRH in the eliminator clash on Friday.
It wasn't easy to sum this match up after the thrashing MI received. I am shattered to say the least. Too much of an expectation led to such a demoralising performance from MI ahead of the playoffs. They have come back from more difficult situations than this. They should like to believe that it was an aberration but the victory for SRH will make they cocker hoop going into the eliminator and on form it will be very difficult for Bangalore to defeat this Hyderabad side. Tata for KKR and their fans including me
Shahbaz Nadeem | MoM: I have been playing like this for the last couple of years. It is important that whenever you get your chances you need to give your 100% and that's what came out today. I have been working on the carrom ball for a couple of years and I thought it was the right time to bowl it becausethey have a lost of left-handers in their side. The round arm delivery doesn't bounce much, but it also depends where it pitches - if it pitches on the leather it stays low and if it pitches on the seam it bounces extra. Today I was looking to get it to skid from the leather. Contributing to the team boosts you. Everyone has been contributing and my job is to fit in. This is a very small ground but the pitches are turning slower, so as a spinner, if you pitch it in the right areas, it does work.
Shahbaz Nadeem is the Man of the Match for his sensational spell of 2/19 in his quota of 4 overs
David Warner | Winning captain: It feels good now after that dreadful loss against KXIP. They rested a few players but it hold them to 150 on this ground was great. A lot of credit goes to the bowlers, Nadeem was superb. We were trying to be as clinical with the bat then, and it feels good. We try and put our best foot forward, and that stems from the franchise owners. They are great people and it is like a family. We have a never say die attitude and that is how we approach each game. We had a couple of injuries but they are here in spirit and we are doing it for them. Kane missed out due to injury last year and Jonny took his place, and was absolutely fantastic. But that happens in franchise cricket, we can play only four overseas players. We looked at 2016, we were in the same situation where we had to win every game to win the title. A dropped chance by Rashid Khan and his reaction hows how much it mean to him. If we can take this performance and momentum into the next game we'll be really happy.
Wriddhiman Saha is the Cred Powerplayer of the Match. As Saha is not present, Shahbaz Nadeem receives the award on his behalf. What a knock from Saha Ever since he has come in, the fortunes of SRH has changed dramatically.
Kieron Pollard gets the Unacademy Lets Crack it Sixes Award. He smashed 4 sixes during his late blitz
Quinton de Kock is the Altroz Super Striker of the ball. 25 runs of 13 balls up front, took toll of a Sandeep Sharma over before Sandeep dismissed him of the final delivery
David Warner is the Dream11 Game Changer of the Match. He finished with 117 fantasy points
VVS Laxman, SRH mentor: Very proud of the entire group, especially after losing that game against KXIP where weren’t able to chase a small target. The boys showed tremendous character. In the absence of Bhuvneshwar, the other bowlers all stepped up. Nadeem was fantastic today and Saha has also stepped up in the last few games. We knew we had to win games against top teams, just took each game as it came. Executed our plans whether it was in the batting department or bowling department. Shows the depth of the squad. Everyone maintained the positivity and that’s why we qualified. He (Warner) leads from the front. He was disappointed at the start of the tournament that he wasn’t hitting the ball well. In the last few games, I remember saying that the 2009 Warner has come out to bat. He is very good with the group. Even when Kane was captain (in 2018), he was excellent with the uncapped players. We know that they (RCB) are a good side. All the sides in this competition are good sides. We’re lucky to qualify. We know we beat them in the previous game but this is going to be different as it’s a knockout game. Quite confident now.
Ever since Jason Holder has come back to the SRH XI they have looked a totally different unit. He bowled brilliantly and bagged the prized wicket of Kieron Pollard in the last over. MI lost 3 wickets in a cluster and it seemed they would fade away into oblivion and come up with a paltry score. Ishan Kishan looked good during his composed knock. In the final few overs, it was Kieron Pollard's power-hitting which propelled MI to a score of 149. It could have been a tricky run chase but Saha and Warner eventually made light work of the MI bowling and coasted home by 10 wickets with 17 balls remaining.
Earlier in the day it was Warner who won the toss and opted to field. MI went for three changes. They rested Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult and in came Rohit Sharma. It was a dodgy start for MI as they lost Rohit Sharma pretty early. Quinton de Kock counter-attacked in the 5th over of Sandeep Sharma by belting him for a couple of sixes and a four. However he had the last laugh by getting him off the last ball. He was the pick of the SRH bowlers finishing with 3 important wicket
Rohit Sharma: "Not the day we want to remember. probably the worst performance of the season for us. We wanted to try a few things but unfortunately it didn't go our way. Losing wickets at the top doesn't help. We knew the dew was playing a big part, and we wanted to take the toss out of consideration. I am happy to be back on the park. Looking forward to a few more games here and see how it goes. The hamstring is absolutely fine. Two ways to look at the dew. We play at Wankhede, which always has dew. So we don't want to be demotivated when we lose the toss. We didn't have enough runs on the board, which didn't put any pressure on us. If you take wickets in the Powerplay, even if there is dew, it can put pressure on them. It is a funny format. You keep doing well. I know you want to remember those two wins against DC but you have to stay in the present and keep doing the small things and keep ticking the boxes. You want to leave tonight behind you as quickly as possible. We will get back to the drawing board tomorrow."
As Rohit Sharma says it was definitely the worst performance from MI this season. A reality check ahead of the highly anticipated Qualifier 1 against the Delhi Capitals.
A massive massive win for Hyderabad. Words are not enough to describe the domination they showed all through the match. At the halfway stage, the match was all done and dusted and in the end, the 10 wicket victory will give a huge boost to SRH going into the knockouts. A team who was nowhere in the picture two weeks back comes back stronger and takes the 3rd position in the points table. What an IPL it has been. It's sad for KKR and their fans as they sadly bow out of the tournament.
The absence of Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah proved to be the game-changer as the MI bowlers never looked like making inroads into the SRH batting line-up. After a good opening over from Dhawal Kulkarni, it was all Hyderabad. Wriddhiman Saha started off briskly and was doing the bulk of the scoring in the first 3 overs. It was in the 4th over of Pattinson when Warner took him apart hitting him for three consecutive boundaries. There was no stopping the duo as they kept churning out runs for fun. They didn't play too many fancy shots and played according to the situation and was never challenged by the derailed MI bowling attack.
What a sensational run chase it turned out to be for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. A 10 wicket victory against the top ranked side in the tournament will surely keep them in good stead ahead of the eliminator clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The target of 150 could have been a tricky one for SRH but the openers David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha had other plans and batted with disdain to chase the target down with 10 wickets in hand. What a thoroughly dominating performance. Not only they go through to the playoffs as the 3rd placed team, they also knock KKR out of the tournament owing to their better net run rate.
17.1 Krunal Pandya to David Warner
4 FOUR!!! A nice way to finish the match and enter the playoffs. Slower in the air outside off, Warner waits and drills this past covers for a boundary. They will face RCB in Qualifier 2 and KKR are out of the competition
