Thank you for being with us. This was me, Arjun Bhalla along my co-commentator Arya Sekhar Chakraborty signing off for this game. I hope you enjoyed your time. Adios!
Stayed tuned with us all we take you through the second match of the day. My colleagues, Arya and Akshay are covering that clash where RR is taking on KKR.
So, after 53 games of the Indian Premier League. We have a team named Mumbai India who has qualified for the playoffs. We have two teams, i.e. CSK and KXIP who are out of the league. IPL 2020 is just 3 games away from the playoffs and no one has any idea who all will qualify for the knockouts.
Ruturaj Gaikwad: I was confident coming in [based on the last domestic season]. Even in club games, even for Maharashtra, I've to play the anchor and take the team to the end. It did hurt not to be part of the squad that flew at first and miss the first few games, but the management and team was supportive. First one or two games it was surreal to be around some of the big names.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the Man of the Match for his 62 not not.
MS Dhoni: It was a difficult campaign. We committed a lot of errors. The last four games were a template of where we would like to be. Proud of the guys because if you're lagging behind for 7-8 games, it becomes really difficult. It's not easy, you won't want to be in a dressing room that's not enjoying cricket. Proud of them. A lot depends on what BCCI decides about the auction. We need to slightly change our core group and looks for the next ten years. At the start of the IPL we made a team that served us well for ten years. It's time to hand it over to the next generation [paraphrased]. Message to the fans - we'll come back strong. That's what we're known for. We are eighth in the table but 14 points and we could have qualified. This is a season where only one team played well (Mumbai) or most teams played well. [The jerseys] maybe they thought I'm retiring! Whenever we have seen Rutu bat, he's somebody who has done well in net sessions. But we were not able to see him in games. Then he got Covid, and even after 20 days he was not fit. He didn't get time for us to gauge. That was one of the main reasons we kept going with Faf and Watson. It didn't work. But that's the point where you go with the experienced players.
Faf du Plessis: Sorry Danny I would like to give you a bat but I only get so many bats. That scoop is the shot I play often and quite bummed that I couldn't get it but pleased for us to finish the season with a win. He (Gaikwad) looks like a young Virat Kohli doesn't he. What stands out for me the most is is his composure. Pressure situations don't really get to him. That is always pleasing to see in a young guy and looks like he has a bright future. I am still loving it. I have got a lot of cricket left in me, at least five years.
KL Rahul: It is as simple as that. We didn't bat really well. Big pressure game, we expected 180-190. We couldn't soak in the pressure. We didn't have the results going our way in the first half. The team still felt like we were playing good cricket. We were patchy. The bowling and batting wasn't coming together in the first half, proud that we did it in the second half. Lots to be proud of as a team. a lot of "could have been". It is disappointing. We had a lot of games in our pockets and we couldn't get over the line and we ony have ourselves to blame. That short run game too, looks like it has come back to bite us.
CSK had a total of 154 runs to chase down and spoil the KXIP hopes for the playoff and the opening duo of Ruturaj and Faf did the same. They had an opening stand of 82 runs before Faf the aggressor was dismissed at 48 by Jordan. They were 82 for one after 10 over and most of the time, the batting team wins from this situation and it happened the same. There were some itsy bitsy of chances which KXIP didn't take and in the end. Ruturaj finished the game with Ambati Rayudu. They were handed a massive loss by Chennai.
Rahul and Mayank started the first innings with a bang for Punjab. They were 48 for in the batting PP but they were up against the brains of MSD. They brought in Ngidi for the last over of the PP. He bowled out Mayank and a few over later the man in form and the skipper KL Rahul. Then, the spin of Tahir and Jadeja didn't allow the batting team to score and took 2 more wickets. In the end, Deepak Hooda played a remarkable inning of 62 runs and pushed the KXIP total to 153 runs.
Kings XI Punjab had the opportunity to win this match and qualify for the playoffs but they ran into the party-poopers CSK. Chennai was coming into the game with two straight wins and KXIP were low on confidence as in the last game, Rajasthan shattered them by chasing 186 runs in 18 overs to break their 5 matches winning streak.
Both the teams have 12 points to their name after 14 games and the tournament is over for both the teams.
Chennai Superkings wins the match by nine wickets with seven balls still to go.
The game and the tournament is over for both the Kings as the Superkings knocked the Kings XI out of the IPL 2020.
18.5 Chris Gayle to Ambati Rayudu
1 A single and the game is over for KXIP. Fuller ball in the off. Ambati Rayudu pushes the ball towards short mid off but Neesham at the position midfield the ball and the tournament is over for CSK and KXIP.
18.4 Chris Gayle to Ruturaj Gaikwad
1 One run and the scores are tied. Fuller ball and Rutu drives it ground the ground
18.3 Chris Gayle to Ambati Rayudu
1 One more run and CSK is just 2 runs away. Full ball in the stumps and Rayudu sweeps it to deep mid wicket
18.2 Chris Gayle to Ruturaj Gaikwad
1 Another single as Ruturaj Gaikwad flicks the fuller ball to mid wicket region
18.1 Chris Gayle to Ambati Rayudu
1 Single to Rayudu. Full ball in the off and the batter pushes it down to long on
Gayle into the attack.
