It was lovely to bring you updates from this match. I, Arjun Bhalla along with my co-commentator Akshay Bhide sign off for now. Do join us tomorrow as Delhi Capitals will be taking up Sunrisers Hyderbad in Dubai. Till then, Good Night folks.
The tournament is getting exciting day after day. Let's see what happens tomorrow in the game between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers. If Delhi wins, they will become the first team of the season to qualify for the playoffs.
As we all the table opened for all the sides to make it to the playoffs. With RR winning Mumbai, CSK's chances were shattered. Now, KXIP is on a roll. They have won all the last 5 matches, they have played. They have knocked off Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, then Hyderabad, and now Kolkata. With the momentum of their side, it seems that the side whom every expect, every cricketing pundit wrote off are the top contenders for the playoff with the Big three of the IPL2020.
Chris Gayle | Player of the Match: I have been doing some off-field training with the trainer when I wasn't playing. You have to have the good feeling. We are happy now, still a long way to go. It was important to assess the conditions as quickly as possible. Two very good spinners, it was important to adjust quickly. Once you get the first boundary going, I was always going to get into the zone. I eased a bit of pressure off Mandeep bit, he batted really well and it was a great partnership. Sunil has got me out so many teams. You got to make best use of it because the wicket wasn't suiting for him. The last game, we told we wanted to won it for him (Mandeep). Really happy for him. We needed some sort of momentum to get that willl power. We need senior players to step up. glad that me and Madeep put our hands up.
Chris Gayle wins the Man of the Match Award in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders.
KL Rahul, winning captain: I am very happy. The whole team will be. we collectively decided to go out there and play positive cricket, and things can turn around. It is different persons putting their hand up at different times. Just happy that everything is coming together. Fingers crossed that we can win a few more games. The kind of toughness Mandeep has shown has rubbed on to other ways. Everybody is emotional. Just to put his hand up, just to be there, just to finish off the game, makes us so proud. When we have Anil Kumble as coach, it is no surprise we are playing two legspinners. He always had that in mind. He has worked really really hard on them. And not just on them, but also those who haven't played yet. Complete team effort, and a lot of credit should go to the coaches. Chris, it was a very hard decision not to play him, He is the hungriest I have seen in the last seven-eight years playing for different franchises. Running ones and twos. And you know how he keeps the dressing room upbeat. To do it over and over again, year after year... We will enjoy tonight's victory, enjoy tomorrow, and then start thinking about the next game. One game at a time, keep the confidence going and keep the energy going.
Shubman Gill wins the Cred Powerplayer of the Match Award.
Chris Gayle wins the UnAcademy #Letscrackit Award.
Altoz Super Striker of the Match goes to Lockie Ferguson.
Mandeep Singh wins the Dream11 Gamechanger of the Match.
Murali Kartik is presenting the post-match ceremony.
Mandeep Singh: This was very special. My father always used to tell me to remain not out in every game, definitely special. He always used to tell me, whether you score 100 or 200, you should be not out. I had a talk with Rahul before the start of the game. Last game I was trying to score quicker and I'm always comfortable doing that. I told Rahul if I play my normal game, I will win the game and I had the belief. He (Rahul) told me to back my game and play the way I want to play, pretty happy with the win. He (Gayle) was just telling me to keep batting and play till the end and I just told him that he should never retire. He is too good. We are very excited.
Let's see what man of the hour Mandeep Singh has to say after his superb knock.
Eoin Morgan, losing captain: Particularly here at Sharjah, you have to counterattack if you lose early wickets, and identify the wicket early. Disappointed with the partnerships, thought we could have scored more (runs). When we were three down, we wanted a partnership going. Around 180-190 would have been a good score, but we kept losing wickets. That's one of the challenges this year, going from ground to ground. Hopefully we adjust to the conditions in Dubai. That's the nature of the tournament, there are not many bad sides. Our faith is in our own hands in the last two games. I think Gill scoring runs and restricting the Kings till the 11th or 12th over, those were the positives.
Mandeep Singh kissed the sky and dedicated this fifty to his late father whom he lost just three days back.
Mandeep Singh came out to bat with skipper Rahul in the absence of Mayank Agarwal. He had huge boots to fill and the responsibility became more immense as he was coming into the match with a failure in the last match and he was being promoted ahead of the Universe Boss - Chris Gayle. He along with KL started the proceeding for KXIP really well and they well playing solid until KL got LBW to the mystery spin of Varun Chakravarthy. After Rahul's dismissal, Mandeep raised his ranks and captivated by the momentum provided by Gayle from the other side. Initially, Mandeep dropped his anchor and Gayle was doing all the hitting work but when he knew the required run-rate is getable. He started the assault as well. The duo scored 100 runs in between them in just 61 balls. Gayle scored another fifty and got out when his team needed just 3 runs to win but Mandeep Singh carried his batting all through the innings.
Eion Morgan's Knight Riders gave the powerful KXIP batting lineup a mere target of the 150 runs on this Sharjah deck. It was also next to impossible for the Knights to defends this low score on the flat Sharjah pitch in front of a batting lineup compressed of KL, Mandeep, Gayle, Maxwell, and Pooran. That they needed to defend was a superb spell of bowling upfront by their bowler which did not happen and in the end, they lost the match by 8 wickets with 7 balls still in hand.
A 5 match winning streak for KL Rahul's company as they beat Kolkata here in Sharjah.
Kings XI Punjab wins this game against KKR by 8 wickets.
18.5 Lockie Ferguson to Nicholas Pooran
1 A short ball on the body and Pooran works this into the leg side behind square for a run. With this they beat KKR by 8 wickets and jump to 4th spot in the points table
