It was lovely to bring you the updates from this match. I, Akshay Bhide along with my co-commentator Karthik Raj sign off for now. Do join us tomorrow as Kings XI Punjab lock horns against Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah. Good Night folks.
A thrilling contest to end the weekend. A magical innings from Stokes has kept Royals alive in the tournament and have eliminated CSK. This opens up the tournament. This was a true spectacle for a cricket fan. This tournament doesn't disappoint and all of a sudden the top 3 sides have lost a game in the past 2 days.
Ben Stokes, Man of the Match - Sour and sweet to be honest - it took so long to get one for the team. We needed a result from today, so - it's a good victory. We came into the game with confidence. The ball was coming on nicely - be it short or full. The plan was to put pressure on every bowler, be it Bumrah or anyone. It's a bit difficult at the moment, things are a bit tough back at home, hopefully, this will give them some happiness.
Ben Stokes is Man of the Match for his sensational knock of 107* of just 60 balls comprising of 14 fours and 3 sixes.
Steve Smith - Very pleased, that's what we're crying for, use the experience, take the game deep and that's what both Stokes and Samson did. The wicket was playing good, the ball was coming onto the bat, there was intent - the shots were flowling, they just played good cricketing shots - I thought the partnership was fantastic. We played some good cricket in the first half, the dropped chance proved to be costly, perhaps we ended up giving away another 40-45 runs, but it didn't matter in the end. I hope our batters take the confidence from this match and play knocks which will help the team win.
Kieron Pollard: I thought they batted well. Hardik brought us straight back in the game with that knock at the halfway stage. We could have got a couple of wickets more, but the wicket ended up becoming a little better. Their spinners got some help from the pitch, but our spinners couldn't do that. At the end of the day, someone wins, someone loses. We just have to come out and play good cricket. Our bowlers tried, but well played to the opposition. He (Hardik) went out and scored 60* off 21, an innings like that and we end up on the losing side, that's just tough luck.
Let's hear from the skippers.
Earlier in the day Pollard won the toss and opted to bat first. They didn't had the best of the starts as the in form de Kock was cleaned up by Archer in the first over. Ishan Kishan and SuryaKumar Yadav steadied the ship but wickets in quick succession brought Royals back in the game. Hardik Pandya came to the crease and changed the whole complexion of the match. He raced to 60 of 21 balls comprising of 2 fours and 7 sixes. He helped MI get to 194 in their 20 overs which was above par on this ground. Shreyas Gopal was the pick of the bowlers for Royals picking 2 wickets. Archer too was good and chipped in with 2 wickets. Other bowlers had an off day and MI batsmen took the advantage of them.
Uthappa and Stokes came out to open to chase 196 against the lethal MI bowling line up. Uthappa departed early in the innings. Smith joined Stokes and started the counter attack but was cleaned up by Pattinson in the 5th over. Samson joined Stokes. Stokes never looked back from there on and kept striking at 200. They stitched a monumental partnership between them and made MI bowling look like a amateur one. No one was spared and eventually they chased the target with 10 balls to spare. Samson remained unbeaten on 54 whereas Benjamin Stokes finished the match remaining not out on 107.
Look away MI fans. This has been a truly special innings from Stokes. Samson too joined Stokes and put on 151 for the 3rd wicket. They completely blew off MI from the game. Stokes brought up his 2nd IPL hundred and took his team across the line. He is destined to do miraculous things and this innings was one of them. There were many questions being raised about him opening the batting, but the Royals management stuck with him and he has repaid their faith. This chase will go as one of the best run chases in the history of IPL.
Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets with 10 balls to spare.
18.2 James Pattinson to Ben Stokes
4 Rajasthan complete the chase with 10 balls left!!! Full toss outside off, Stokes lifts it to the cover region for a boundary. That it it. What a knock and what an innings from RR
