On that note, it was me, Arjun Bhalla along with my partner in crime Akshay Bhide signing off for this game on the account of OneCricket but you don't dare to move. As my very talented colleagues, Karthik Raj and Akshay Bhide are presenting you with the other clash of the day.
Chennai's chances are mathematically still alive to make it to the playoff. There are tons of permutations and combinations to happen if they qualify.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Man of the Match: "It feels good. More importantly winning the game for the team. And being not out in the end. It was tough for me going into quarantine for more days than the rest of the team because of Covid. I got support from everybody. I knew a knock was always around the corner. It was a little bit slow, but I was picking up the gaps. And I was pro-active to pick which bowlers to attack and which to not."
Ruturaj Gaikwad win the Man of the Match award for his unbeaten 65 runs in 51 balls.
MS Dhoni: "I felt this one was one of the perfect games. Everything went to plan, and the execution was there. We kept picking wickets, and kept them to a total that was slightly below par. The wicket was on a slower side, and the spinners did a good job. We haven't been very consistent with the batting. Today the start was very good. Rutu batted well. He backed himself to play the shots he is known for. Looking to time the ball, if you look for four, you can get six. It does hurt when you don't do well so you try to amplify certain emotions. So that the guys just don't drop the game. That can leave with 12 painful hours of the remaining time in the tournament. You have to enjoy the game no matter where you are on the table. If you are not enjoying the cricket, it can become cruel and painful. So I am glad with how the youngsters have responded."
Virat Kohli: What you saw in the second innings wasn't a true representation of how the pitch was. They bowled stump to stump. I don't think we got a ball to drive when we batted. Their spinners kept it tight too. 140+ is a competitive total on that pitch, we were targetting 150. I thought we still could have bowled change of pace and the odd bouncer. We weren't expressive enough. We let batsmen dictate stuff. You have to be prepared on a given day to do well. All sides have good players, it's about how you come out onto the park on that particular day. We are playing really good cricket and you have to accept you will lose games here and there.
Let's see what the captains say in the post-match ceremony.
Sam Curran: We were trying to get a win. The pitch was quite similar to the Chennai pitch. And what a knock it was from Ruturaj (Gaikwad). It was one of those wickets which didn't have much pace in it. So tried to bowl the off-cutters and luckily it came off. I've been looking to work on the back of the hand slower ball, something my brother (Tom Curran) bowls well. To be honest we all have been impressed with him (Gaikwad). He'll get that confidence for the next few games. It's good for his confidence to get such a score against a side like RCB.
Ruturaj Gaikwad wins Unacademy #letscrackit award.
Faf du Plessis wins the award of Altroz Superstriker of the Match.
Ruturaj Gaikwad wins the Dream11 game changer award.
Faf and Ruturaj started the chase for CSK. Faf played the role of aggressor in the powerplay over but soon he was removed by Chris Morris. Then came, Ambati Rayudu in at Number 3 who along with Ruturaj Gaikwad took on all the Banglore bowlers. Rayudu was bowled out by a magical delivery of Yuzi Chahal but till then the game was out from RCB's reach. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored an unbeaten half-century before he finished off the game by a maximum with his captain and mentor on the other strike.
What a comeback for Chennai in this match. MSD said he'll back the youngsters and look to build the squad for the next IPL. He did and the youngbloods of CSK surely responded. It was started when CSK bowlers pulled things back in the latter half of the RCB innings. RCB was cruising to a huge total of 160-170 runs with the duo of Ab and VK in the middle. CSK resisted the RCB batting lineup to a score of 145 runs. They had the target of 146 runs to chase in the 20 overs and oh, boy! They chased it in some style.
Chennai Superkings win this game by 8 wickets and with 8 deliveries remaining.
