So it was a great day for Kings XI Punjab and just like always me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentator Arjun Bhalla had a wonderful time bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. Till the next time, adieus my friends. Stay tuned for the high octane clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Shikhar Dhawan, the Man of the Match: "The boys have been playing well in other games. Today I had to take the responsibility on myself. I really enjoyed it today. It is good that I am scoring consistently so you carry it into the next games. We are going to have a discussion and see where we can improve. Of course it is going to be a learning. This is not going to put us down. Just take our lessons, and come back stronger."
KL Rahul, KXIP skipper: Specially when you play with 6 batters and one all-rounder. One of the top four had to do the job. One thing that we need to look at. Shami was coming in after some confidence from the last game. Arshdeep bowled two overs in the powerplay and one over at the death. And he nailed 6 yorkers. Glenn has been batting well in the nets. He is a great team man and we know the balance he brings to the table. The talk before the last couple of games was to beat two teams were at the top of the points table. I couldn't sleep after the last game. We could have finished it before and not allowed it to go into the super over. The game reminds us to stay humble. We would want to take the momentum forward and take it one game at a time.
Nicholas Pooran: Wonderful game. We spoke of areas to improve. Very well done to not bring it down to the last over. I got a start and didn't finish the game, so that's disappointing for me. One of those nights, poor communication, simple (about the mix-ups between the wickets). We have to win games. We are ticking boxes, bowling well as a team. I am naturally an aggressive player. I am confident and hitting the ball well.
Shreyas Iyer | Delhi Capitals (losing) captain: I feel that we fell around 10 runs short, but we got a lot of learnings from this game. Shikhar's batting was a positive. Tushar leaked runs but that happens to the best of us. I'm sure he will come back. Shikhar read the wicket well, adapted to the situation, he went hard from Ball 1, and passed the message onto the youngsters that the wicket is stopping. He acclimatised to the conditions quicker the others. The good thing is that the boys will be charged up for the next game. We weren't up to the mark, but I'm sure we will be next time.

Earlier in the day, it was Shreyas Iyer who won the toss and opted to bat. There was only one notable contribution from DC and that was a sensational century from the blade of Shikhar Dhawan. He became the first-ever batsmen in IPL history to smash back to back centuries. The start was not promising for DC as they lost Prithvi Shaw. Shreyas Iyer could also make a small contribution However Dhawan was at his exceptional best. He belted the Punjab attack all around the park but didn't get enough support from the other side. Despite remaining unbeaten on 106 of just 61 deliveries, DC could only post 164 and it didn't prove to be enough in the end. A huge win for Punjab. A team who was languishing at the bottom a week ago is currently at the 5th position. Fortunes can change so fast in this tournament.
Pooran looked in solid touch from the outset and smashed 6 fours and 3 sixes en route to his knock of 53 of 28 deliveries. Glenn Maxwell finally contributed but just when the match looked done and dusted he threw away his wicket. Eventually, it was Jimmy Neesham who smashed a six of the final delivery of the penultimate over to seal the deal for Punjab.
Punjab didn't get off to a perfect start as they lost the inform KL Rahul early. Chris Gayle came into the middle and blasted his way to a 29 of 13 deliveries which included a 26 runs over of Tushar Deshpande. However, in the very next over, Ravichandran Ashwin castled Chris Gayle with a great delivery. It was followed by a horrendous mixup between Mayank Agarwal and Nicholas Pooran which resulted in the former's dismissal.
The target of 165 was not a huge one but with DC's bowling line-up, they would have backed themselves to defend the total. However in the end, it didn't prove to be enough. Riding on a brilliant half-century by Nicholas Pooran and useful contributions by Glenn Maxwell and Chris Gayle, Punjab chased the total down with a full over left.
So that's game over folks. A much-needed victory for Kings XI Punjab and they bag two valuable points which make both the points table and the IPL interesting. A team who was languishing at the bottom of the table have slowly started an upward surge and are currently occupying the 5th position in the points table replacing Rajasthan Royals.
18.6 Daniel Sams to James Neesham
6 SIX!!!!! And GAME OVER!!!! Jimmy Neesham closes the game for KXIP in some fashion. Daniel Sams bowls a length ball in off, Neesham` knew what kind of bowl is coming up and he sends the ball INTO THE STANDS for a MAXIMUM over midwicket as KXIP wins this game by 5 wickets with an over remaining.
18.5 Daniel Sams to Deepak Hooda
1 Fuller ball outside off and Hooda tries to smack it over long off but miscues the shot, the ball is in the air and MARCUS STOINIS at extra cover drops it.
18.4 Daniel Sams to Deepak Hooda
0 Shorter ball in the stumps and Hooda defends it to point
18.3 Daniel Sams to James Neesham
1 Short of a length, into the body, Neesham tucks it away to long leg for one
18.2 Daniel Sams to Deepak Hooda
1 Single to Hooda who drives the length ball towards deep cover
18.1 Daniel Sams to James Neesham
1 One. Length ball outside off, Neesham swings his handle hard but the ball finds the outside edge and flies towards third man who guides it
