So KKR reaches the top half of the table with 5 wins from 9 matches. Just like always, it was a pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. Till the next time, adieus from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentator Akshay Bhide
Lockie Ferguson (Man of the Match): I think getting David Warner out especially at the start of the super over [was my favourite wicket]. It's great having Morgs at the top off the mark with his calmness and of course I had my plan which was working throughout the game. Look we'll take this win and enjoy tonight, it was a very good win on a tough wicket. It was nice to put the icing on the cake after the batsmen's effort.
Eoin Morgan: They're nice to be part of, get a glimpse into what the guys are about. For Lockie to come in and perform in both phases was outstanding. We've been sort of striving to get wins out of the last couple of games, didn't happen against Mumbai; today we were competitive. It'll all depend on a lot of match-ups, what we think are the right dynamics at the time [the batting order]. Dre went off the field, we thought he was injured. He came back on and said he could bowl. I think he showed a lot of character to get us to the Super Over after not starting well. He's a superstar player for us. Hopefully we an gather up some momentum after this.
Dinesh Karthik: Relief. It was a game we could have won comfortably. Made it a little tough for ourselves. I think it was a little hard to bat on, a little sticky, that's why you see low scores defended. I started 4, depending on how the match goes Baz [sends me out] so I'm not fussed about where I bat.
David Warner: I don't know where to start. At the end of the day, we probably leaked a few too many in the middle overs and at the back end. For us it's about finishing games and we've failed the last 2-3 occasions. Not at all in two minds about bowling first. I thought this was a nice wicket that wouldn't change and to be fair it didn't. 165 was about par. We lost wickets at crucial times again. Kane had to open because he had a slight niggle with his adductor. Will need some physio work.
However, there was a break in play with two back to back wickets. Russell yet again went for a low score. Eventually, the final impetus was provided by current and former skipper Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik. They shared a 59 runs stand in the final 5 overs which eventually propelled KKR to a score of 163. Eventually it proved to be just enough
Earlier in the day, SRH skipper David Warner won the toss and surprisingly opted to field. KKR got off to a pretty brisk start courtesy Rahul Tripathi and Shubhman Gill. A 48 runs partnership came to an end in the final delivery of the powerplay overs. Gill shared a good stand with Nitish Rana. The latter looked in great touch and treated Rashid Khan with disdain
A visibly unfit Andre Russell was asked to bowl the final over with 18 needed. Warner almost finished the match off with three boundaries but Russell kept his composure and bowled a good final delivery to take the match to the super over.
Ferguson kept bowling some exceptional line and length and the change of pace on certain occasions were quite brilliant. He was the man whom KKR needed and he didn't disappoint. He bagged the wickets of Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey. The delivery to Pandey was straight out of the top draw. Warner who came to bat at No 4 played a great knock. He started off as an anchor and almost played a match winning knock in the final over
Chasing 164 to win, SRH got off to the perfect start. A change in opening combination saw a change in fortune as well. Kane Williamson walked out to open the innings with Jonny Bairstow with David Warner dropping down the order. Williamson looked in ominous touch and smashed quickfire 29 of 19 deliveries before falling to his own countryman Lockie Ferguson in the very first delivery of his spell
Lockie Ferguson conceded just two runs in the super over bagging two wickets in the form of David Warner and Abdul Samad. An exceptional piece of bowling to be honest. 3 runs in the super over were never going to be an issue for KKR as they strolled home with 2 deliveries left.
So another close shave for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Again a match they might have lost but eventually won it in the super over. It was a sensational piece of bowling from Lockie Ferguson both in the match and in the super over. I simply don't have a clue where was Ferguson all this while. But better late than never
0.4 Rashid Khan to Dinesh Karthik
2lb And that is it, sliding down the leg, takes the pads of Karthik down the deep fine leg region and they complete a leg bye couple to finish the match off
0.3 Rashid Khan to Dinesh Karthik
0 Dot, googly back of a length, Karthik wanted a single here but pushes it straight to mid on.
0.2 Rashid Khan to Eoin Morgan
1 One, again a quick Rashid delivery on the stumps, Morgan sweeps this down the deep square leg region for a single, he wanted a 2nd there but Karthik denies, 2 needed of the last 4
0.1 Rashid Khan to Eoin Morgan
0 Dot, fuller from Rashid and quicker, Morgan reverse sweeps this straight to the point fielder
So KKR need 3 to win the super over. Rashid Khan is seen warming up.
0.3 Lockie Ferguson to Abdul Samad
W BOWLED' EM!!!! Take a bow Lockie Ferguson. A slower ball on the stumps and Samad goes for a big hoick across the line and misses it completely, the ball crashes on the stumps and SRH manage to score only 2 runs
