That's all from us on behalf of OneCricket. Do join us tomorrow for another double header as SRH lock horns against KKR in Abu Dhabi and MI face KXIP in Dubai. Until then bye and good night from me Akshay Bhide and my co-commentator Arya Sekhar Chakraborty. Ta Ta.
DC beat CSK by 5 wickets. This just doesn't sum up the match that we just witnessed. This match had everything- fours, sixes, dropped catches, milestones. IPL doesn't disappoint when providing us with nail-biting finishes.
Shikhar Dhawan | Man of the Match: It's very special (first IPL ton). Playing for 13 years, so very special. Really happy. At the start of the tournament, I was hitting the ball but I wasn't converting the 20s or 30s into fifties. Once you start doing that, you get more confidence. I just want to continue the same form and make the most of it. I keep my mindset positive, I don't think a lot. Of course, I do have a few strategies according to pitch. I feel I have courage. It (fitness) is very important. Luckily, I was able to work a lot on my routine due to this long break we had due to Corona.
Shreyas Iyer | Winning captain: I was very nervous, didn't know what to say because it was getting to the last over. I knew that if Shikhar stays till the end, we will win. But the way Axar struck the ball was amazing to see. Whenever we give the Man of the Match awards in our dressing room, he is always there. He is an unsung hero. His preparation is always on point and he knows what he is doing. We've been gelling well as a team from the first day of our camp. We know the strengths and weaknesses of each other. We've embraced each other's success and failure in the same way. I just told one of the teammates today that today the way he batted, it was really mesmerizing to see. Also gives me some breathing space as captain.
MS Dhoni | Losing captain: Bravo was not fit, he went out and was really not able to come back. That was the reason we had to bowl (Jadeja). The option was either Karn and Jaddu so I went ahead with Jaddu. Maybe not enough. Shikhar's wicket was important, we did drop him quite a few times. He's somebody if he is batting, he'll keep ticking the scoreboard. He'll keep taking his chances. If he's there on the crease, he'll always maintain a good strike rate. I felt his wicket was crucial. Also there was difference between the first innings and the second innings. The wicket behaved slightly better in the second innings, it came on slightly better which made it slightly easy for the batsmen. But overall, we can't really take the credit away from Shikhar, he batted really well and was supported really well by the other batters. There was just enough dew, there wasn't a lot of dew, just enough to make it slightly better and that creates a difference between the first and the second innings. It becomes slightly more difficult to score in the first innings in the middle overs and slightly easier in the middle overs of the second innings. So that could make the difference because you are minus 10 and then you have to stop those extra 10 runs in the second innings. So 20 runs is a lot of difference specially if the team is batting well. Sam's last over, the way he bowled (when asked about the positives from the game). He needs to be convinced that he can execute outside off yorkers, that is something most of the coaching staff want the bowlers to bowl. If you are not comfortable doing it, you can't really push in the game. I feel this game will give him a lot of confidence when it comes to executing outside off yorkers, I feel that will be one delivery that is slightly difficult to hit.
Let's hear from the captains what they have to say.
Earlier in the day MS won the toss and elected to bat first. Sam Curran was dismissed in the very first over. du Plessis and Watson stitched 87 between them. du Plessis brought up his half century. Watson was cleaned up by Nortje. du Plessis too departed trying to accelerate. Dhoni was dismissed by Nortje in the 17th over. Jadeja joined Rayudu and they took on DC bowlers. They put on 50 between them of just 21 balls. Rayudu and Jadeja remained unbeaten on 45 and 33 respectively. Some late fireworks from them took them to 179.
Dhawan was playing a sensational knock and brought up his first century in IPL. He played some mind boggling shots and the CSK bowlers had no answers. He was dropped 4 times in his innings and CSK paid penalty for their dropped catches. Axar Patel provided the late flourish in the last over to hand CSK their 6th loss of this edition.
The chase began on a worst note for DC as they lost Shaw on the second ball. Rahane too departed in the powerplay trying to accelerate. Shreyas Iyer joined Dhawan in the middle and stitched a good partnership between them. Dhawan brought up his half century and was looking brilliant. Shreyas Iyer departed trying to up the ante and CSK were back in the game. Stoinis was good for his quickfire 24 but was dismissed by Shardul Thakur in the 16th over. Dhawan was playing a sensational knock and brought up his first century in IPL. Axar Patel provided the late flourish in the end to hand CSK their 6th loss of this edition.
DC beat CSK by 5 wickets in a thriller in Sharjah. This ground doesn't fail to disappoint us when it comes down to nail-biting finishes. Shikhar Dhawan carried his bat and remained unbeaten on 101 of 58 balls. It all came down to the last over with 17 required from the last over. Dhoni gave the ball to Jadeja as Bravo wasn't fit and Axar Patel absolutely smashed Jadeja. He belted him for 3 huge sixes to seal the game for DC. They move at the top of the table with 14 points and CSK are stuck at 6 points and will be surely disappointed with their efforts tonight.
I am sorry for the blip up but I noticed this just now, Maaf kardo Mahi bhai is all that I can say
I think Bravo was not on the field Arya. Ruturaj Gaikwad was out there in the field replacing him
19.5 Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel
6 SIX!!!!! Thats all from here, that was a horrendous decision to give Jadeja the final over to be honest, Axar slams this over the long on boundary and he finishes the match off in style, MS what have you done here???????????????? I have no idea why will you go with someone who has just bowled one over in the match and why not the most experienced death overs bowler Dwayne Bravo, I am flabbergasted
19.4 Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel
2 Two and it should seal the game here, back of a length again and Axar hits this down the square leg region for a couple. 1 from 2 now
19.3 Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel
6 SIX!!! That should be the game, outside off, Jadeja drills it over the long off region for a six. 3 from 2 now
19.2 Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel
6 SIX!!!! What a hit from Axar, back of a length and Axar slams this down the deep midwicket region for a six. 9 from 4
19.1 Ravindra Jadeja to Shikhar Dhawan
1 One, slogs this down the deep square leg region for a single, huge pressure for Axar now
19.1 Ravindra Jadeja to Shikhar Dhawan
WD WIDE outside off, a big big gamble from Dhoni
17 needed from 6. Jadeja to bowl the last. Dhawan to face
