So that's all from here folks. Till the next time, bubyee from my side, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentator Arjun Bhalla.
So Mumbai Indians keep their exceptional run against KKR intact as they eased past them by 8 wickets. Being an ardent MI fan I am thrilled to bits as they again reclaim their top position. Like always it was a pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. We have a doubleheader tomorrow and it should be two high octane clashes.
Quinton de Kock - Man of the Match - To be honest, I'm not very sure - it's the best shot I have in my armoury (talking about his leg-side game), I like to play it and it's nice when it comes off. It's all about keeping my balance, I don't work too much on the cross-bat shots, it's important to stay in line while playing those. I was disappointed at not finishing it off last game, Mahela had a word to us - he keeps us in check, in focus, it's nice to have such people around. I have played enough to not think too much about the keeping - everyone does drop catches and I'm not any different. I'm working on some aspects of the keeping, but I think I can keep improving on that aspect of the game
Rohit Sharma: "It is special to win as comprehensively as this when chasing. It gives us confidence. I guess now teams batting second will win most of the games. That's what I feel. The trend is changing. It is always a challenge when you have won four in four. How you turn up is what matters. We turned up really well, and right from ball one we were in their faces. I am a big fan of match-ups. read them well, and decide whom to exploit when. Having said that, you have to read the pitch and be instinctive too. I still bowled Rahul and Krunal to Russell because the pitch was holding up a little bit. Then I brought on Bumrah. I enjoy batting with Quinton. He is straightforward. Most of the times I take the back seat. I have a role to play in the squad. I need to let Quinny bat free and not worry about what the team needs from him."
Quinton de Kock gets the Unacademy Lets Crack it Sixes Award
Hardik Pandya is the Altroz Super Striker of the Match
Quinton de Kock is the Dream11 Game Changer of the game
Hardik Pandya: I have been using that bat for three years now, so it has to be good. I am working on my technique and maintaining the shape is more important. I go in deep in by batting, I really like to know about the factors which I am working on, eventually when it turns out pretty well, I really enjoy it. It's simple - see the ball, play the ball. My batting, I keep it simple. I don't think much about what the bowler is gonna bowl. I think the bowler is gonna bowl here, I prepare myself and eventually I play merit of the ball.
Eoin Morgan | KKR captain: We weren’t in the race at all really, being four or five down. Managed to get a score on the board but when Mumbai play like that, they are hard to stop. Guys fought hard but just not enough runs on the board. No.4, 5 and 6 we have lot of experience. We’re trying to adapt according to the situations. Don’t think it would have made much difference today.
The decision of Rohit Sharma to bring back Jasprit Bumrah in the attack gave rich dividends as he removed the dangerous Andre Russell. KKR was well and truly sliding down the barrel when Pat Cummins turned the match around with his lusty hitting. He scored his maiden IPL fifty and shared a stand of 87 runs with Eoin Morgan to take KKR to a competitive score of 148. However it didn't prove to be enough as MI chased the target down with more than 3 overs left.
Earlier in the day, it was newly appointed KKR skipper Eoin Morgan who won the toss and opted to bat. KKR got off to the worst possible starts and kept on losing wickets on a consistent basis. After losing Shubhman Gill and Rahul Tripathi, it was Rahul Chahar who spun a web around the KKR batters and bagged two back to back wickets to derail KKR's progress.
In the final stretch of their innings it was Hardik Pandya who enthralled everyone with his strokeplay. He remained unbeaten on 21 of 11 deliveries which included a couple of fours and a six of a single Pat Cummins over. Courtesy the big victory, MI replaced DC and occupied the top position yet again. The only wicket-takers for KKR was Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy.
Quinton de Kock looked in ominous touch and smashed the KKR bowlers all around the park with utmost disdain. He remained unbeaten on 78 of 445 deliveries and proved to be a game-changer. De Kock shared a crucial opening stand with Rohit Sharma where the latter played the 2nd fiddle. The opening stand of 94 more or less secured a win for MI.
So it's all done and dusted as MI thoroughly outplay KKR by 8 wickets to top the points table yet again. It was an utterly dominating performance from the four-time champions as KKR was never really in the game. Barring a sensational stand towards the latter part of their batting between Morgan and Cummins, KKR was never in the match. The chase of 149 wouldn't have been difficult for MI given their star-studded batti8ng line-up and they lived up to their reputations.
16.5 Chris Green to Hardik Pandya
1 Yorker ball and Hardik calmly drives this one along the ground for a run and Mumbai Indians win this match by 8 wickets and with 19 balls remaining. A huge boast in the net run rate column for Mumbai Indians as they go at the top of the points table
16.4 Chris Green to Hardik Pandya
4 FOUR!!!!! And the scores are level. Short and wide, Hardik Pandya cuts it and cuts it hard and gets a boundary! MI needs just one more run
16.3 Chris Green to Quinton de Kock
1 Low full toss, QDK drivs this down to long-on
16.2 Chris Green to Hardik Pandya
1 Fuller ball in the stumps, quicker ball. Hardik tries to slog it over mid wicket but mistimes and the ball rolls and goes towards short fine
16.1 Chris Green to Quinton de Kock
1 Short ball outside off and de Kock cuts it hard
