That's all for today as I, Arjun Bhalla, and my colleague and co-commentator Mohak Arora are signing off for today on the account of OneCricket. See you all tomorrow for yet another crucial clash, this time between Chennai Superkings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Till then goodnight. Ta-Da! And also, Ee Sala Cup Namde!
AB de Villiers, the Man of the Match: "I am very happy with my performance. That's all I can say. I got a duck last game, that is a terrible feeling. I am very happy that I contributed. I surprised myself today to be honest. We were headed towards 140-150, and I thought I might try for 160-165, but I was surprised we reached 195. The margins are very small when Cummins and Russell are running in, and you need to use every bit of energy in you to keep the momentum going. I felt that energy in the bus already. Keeping is a different skill. I am working really really hard so that I am up to the mark. I want to be the best that there is."
AB de Villiers wins the Man of the Award for his one run out. Just kidding... obviously for his masterplay of 77 runs off just 33 balls which had six maximums and five boundaries.
Kohli: They've played good cricket in this IPL. Coming here, it was important to get the right start. Great to see individuals step up when the team requies. Bowling unit, with Morris coming in, looks all the more potent. Very happy. At the toss the pitch didn't have the usual Sharjah sheen. Knew the wicket was going to get slower and slower. Barring one super-human, everyone struggled on that pitch. Talk was around 165-170. Preparation was really good. Three week camp helped us. Have clarity of plans. Know exactly what we want to do on the field. All depends on the mindset. It's very positive. If your bowling unit is strong, you have a great chance of going deep in the tournament. Was unbelievable. I thought I had a few balls under my belt so I'll start striking. But he came in and hit his third ball nicely. On a pitch like that, only AB can do that. It was a special knock. We got 195 purely because of the genius of that man. Always things you can reflect on and say you can improve on these things. All about taking this momentum forward. Don't want to be complacent.
All the RCB bowlers bowled well in the second innings. Chris Morris and Washington Sundar took two wickets each in their four overs. Yuzi, Saini, Siraj, and Udana took one wicket each. With the inclusion of Chris Morris and Isuru Udana in the playing mix, Royal Challengers Bangalore is looking a well-balanced side and firm favorites for the playoffs and the finals as well.
Dinesh Karthik | KKR skipper: He (de Villiers) is a world-class player and hard to stop him on a ground like this and at the end of the day his innings was the difference between both sides. We need to sit down and make sure there are few things we need to do better. Batting is one area we didn't do well today and that's something we gonna try and improve. We have three days break and we need to start fresh after that. It's been an interesting IPL so far as a lot of teams are comfortable batting first. I think every captain has a day like this where everything doesn't go according to plan and it's one of those days for me, I don't want to read too much into it.
Washington Sundar: Chahal and I did well in the middle overs. Really happy to be part of a big win. We spoke about this before the tournament. We did expect the pitches to slow down midway through the tournament, so we both wanted to do the job. It wasn’t easy for me to hit the deck every ball but that’s where the challenge lies. I have only been working on that (accuracy) and not really looking for variations. Glad that it’s working. We did think that 160 will be a good score but the way AB batted, he took us to 30 runs more. It’s been three years with him (Kohli) and I’ve learnt a lot from him. It’s been a great campaign so far, hopefully we can win more games and go really deep.
The pressure was on Knight Riders from the start of the innings but Gill and Banton gave them a steady start. Till the 4th over, they were looking in control but Saina sent Banton back to the pavilion, and then it was Sundar who removed Rana. Shubman Gill played some confident strokes but after his dismal, it was like a castle of cards. Morgan, skipper DK, Russell, Tripathi; no KKR batter could standstill in front of the all-round bowling attack of RCB.
The momentum was always on Bangalore's side after the blockbuster innings of 77 runs by AB de Villiers in the first half of the match. A complete team effort by the RCB boys, everyone pitching in for them. Right from start, Padikkal crucial start with Aaron Finch and then the AB and VK show to push the RCB total to 194.
Royal Challengers Bangalore wins this match by 82 runs and secures the third position at the points table.
