And that is that for the day, the Delhi Capitals go top and the Royal Challengers Bangalore will be hoping for some redemption later this week. Thank you for staying till the end, it was an absolute delight to bring you all the updates. A goodbye from me, Mohak Arora and my colleague Arjun Bhalla. TaDa!
Axar Patel is the 'Man of the Match'. Let's see what he has to say Axar (Translated by Iyer): I knew it was stopping on the wicket. I knew I would bowl in the powerplay and I had practiced for it as well. I think I executed my plans really well. My plan after speaking to batsmen was that since the wicket was slow, I wanted to bowl at the stumps and vary the pace. In the powerplay I was in a mood to defend at first, but when the third ball spun I changed gears and got into an attack mode.
Shreyas continued: The boys have been working really hard and we have maintained our temperament really well. It is important for us to get a good recovery. It isn't easy going back into the bio bubble, so we try to spend time with each other and that is working really well for us. It is saddening when a senior player who was doing amazingly well gets injured but we have got good replacements as well. Chopping and changing spoils the atmosphere in the team so we're trying to keep it really simple. I am feeling really good (about myself).
Shreyas Iyer | Winning captain: Getting four out of five, I will take that any day. Kudos to the boys and the temperament shown in pressure situations. Our strategy was to be fearless and play with full freedom. We have got good youngsters in our side, so we just need to go out and execute our talent and skills. I am very happy with the way things are going so far, and we need to keep up the momentum. When we come on to the ground we talk about comprehensive victories.
Virat continued: We were quite aggressive with the new ball, Prithvi and Shkihar batted really well. I think Prithvi took the game on and we expected that, we kept a catching position and even tried to pick a wicket with the spinner. We got into the game after the first six and then Stoinis batted really well in the end, we gave him a life, he took the game away from us. Chris was really close to playing today as well but couldn't make it. We have four days to the next game, once he comes back into the squad it is a different balance altogether. The good thing is we have won three out of five, we have lost two where we haven't played good cricket, so I think it is about rectifying those small mistakes.
Virat Kohli | Losing captain: I think they got off to a great start in the first six then we pulled it back in the next 8 overs and the last phase again got away from us. Those important chances in between we need to grab when the opportunity comes our way, it is not like we are dropping half chances, we are dropping sitters and those things hurt you. The execution with the ball towards the end could have been better and with the bat as well. Not a complete performance in any regard today.
Let's hear what the skippers thought of tonight's match!
While chasing 197, RCB's batting might was of no use as Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers returned to the pavilion before the end of the powerplay. Virat Kohli showed some resistance but his innings of 43 runs was in vain as RCB ended up on the wrong side of the result in Dubai once again.
Virat Kohli won the toss and asked the Capitals to bat first despite Dubai being more friendly to the teams batting first and RCB was punished for not respecting the recent history of this ground. Prithvi Shaw's express innings of 42 runs off 23 balls helped DC get the best start in the 2020 edition of the IPL. The middle overs were dominated by RCB as Shaw, Dhawan, and skipper Iyer returned to the pavilion in a procession. Marcus Stoinis and Rishabh Pant's stand of 89 runs off 41 balls helped DC post 196 on the board.
RCB taste another big defeat here in the United Arab Emirates. Delhi Capitals have completed their biggest ever win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they seal a 59-run victory. Delhi Capitals have climbed to the top of the table while the Royal Challengers remain third for now with Rajasthan Royals to play the Mumbai Indians tomorrow.
