This is the second highest opening partnership in 10 wicket wins in IPL history. This perfectly sums up CSK's dominace tonight It was great to bring you this coverage and till the next time, ta ta from me, Akshay bhide and my colleague Arjun Bhalla. Tune in for tomorrow's game as DC lock horns against RCB. Good Night folks
Shane Watson: I felt like something that been slightly off, technically. So it was nice for it to come off. Just a combination of technique and intent. Was able to get the weight through the ball a lot better. We do complement each other well. There are bowlers he (Faf) prefers to take on and he's a great guy and good batting with him. With so much experience and success the franchise have had, they believe in the players. We just knew we had to do a few things better. It came together.
Shane Watson is awarded the Player of the Match for his 53 ball 83 that comprised of 11 fours and 3 huge sixes
Dhoni: Did the small things right. Believed in the process. Were looking for the kind of start today. That's where experience counts. It's not about being more aggressive. Watson was looking good in the nets. But what you want is to replicate that. It was just a matter of time that he gets going. Faf is like a sheet anchor for us. He can always confuse the bowlers with shots like the lap shot. They compliment each other well. Fleming doesn't get the kind of recognition he should. The good thing between us is that we decide each and every thing between us. It's not like we don't have debates over selections. But it stays between us. Felt the bowlers did a very good job. Felt we bowled according to what our plan was. Momentum with the right kind of shots - I felt Watto and Faf backed themselves to play the shots they're known for. It was very good to watch them out there.
Faf du Plessis: It's coming well. I think the big thing for me it to bat till the end. I don't want to score 30s and 40s and get out. Great that we could get a great partnership tonight. Great that Watto (Shane Watson) got those runs as well for us, he's a big player in our side. I thought in the previous game we were good with the ball, but we didn't bat well. Today Watto was a big plus for us. A lot of guys haven't played cricket, so you hope that you strike form immediately. But when that doesn't happen, it does take a bit of time. Hopefully our guys find their best form over the next 3-4 games. Credit to MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming for sticking with the side. It a Chennai way to stick with the players more than other teams might even when others feel like making changes. It comes with experience and credit to the management for sticking with the players. It isn't as easy as it looks. (On Fleming getting animated) I saw Fleming, it was very unlike him. Must be the beard that he's growing (laughs). We expect a calm captain and coach, but you want to see that sometimes, it means that he really cares.
KL Rahul | losing captain: It's hard being on the losing side for so many games on the trot. We need to come back harder and better. There's no rocket science where we are going wrong, it's the execution. When we started batting, the wicket did stop a bit and when the spinners came in there was some grip and turn. If we don't get wickets of the class of Watson and du Plessis, we are in trouble. It's a bit hard to attack as a captain when they are going at 10 runs an over in the powerplay. They are all professional players, so we can expect them to come back better. We need to keep training harder, practising and try to win the key moments in the game. Hopefully we'll be able to bounce back.
Both teams were sitting at the bottom of the table. CSK decided to back their players albeit criticism and Kings XI on the other hand made 3 changes. This might have been the deciding factor between both these teams but full credit to Watson and du Plessis to repay the faith shown by the management.
Earlier in the day, Rahul won the toss and elected to bat first which has been the trend this IPL. Rahul and Agarwal were cautious in their approach and Agarwal departed looking to accelerate. Mandeep played a cameo in the middle and departed with Rahul stranded at the other end. He along with Pooran re-builded the innings and Pooran was excellent for his 33. Rahul was cautious in his approach and was out in the death overs. Some decent death bowling from Shardul Thakur and Bravo restricted KXIP to 178. Jadeja was good in the middle overs and Chahar was excellent with the new ball up front.
Kings XI bowlers were inconsistent with their line and lengths and paid for it. Number of freebies were offered to out of form Watson and he was happy to receive it. Watson and du Plessis never looked like getting out and both innings were chanceless innings. They put on highest partnership for CSK in IPL history. A lot to think for the KXIP camp and CSK are back in form.
This is what is called as a convincing win. Was this the same team that played last 3 matches. Watson was under the pump while coming into this game and what a way to repay the faith shown by the management. Watson and du Plessis were ruthless with the bat from the start and the KXIP bowlers had no answers to them. Going at 10 runs per over in the first 10, they were clear of their plans and finished the match in the 18th over. Both remained unbeaten in the end and chased down the total comfortably.
17.4 Mohammad Shami to Francois du Plessis
4 FOUR runs by Faf to finish the game and CSK wins the game in the 18th over with 10 wickets. A huge win for Chennai Superkings. Low full toss outside off, and Faf du Plessis drives the ball through extra cover for a classic boundary. A pure hammering by CSK and their openers to knock Kings XI Punjab. This win is this season's first successful chase in Dubai.
17.3 Mohammad Shami to Francois du Plessis
6 SIX!!!! A mighty blow by FAF du PLESSIS with A SINGLE HAND! Yorker ball by Shami and Faf digs the ball in some style and hits for a maximum. CSK just needs 2 runs to win this match.
17.2 Mohammad Shami to Francois du Plessis
2 Back of length ball, Faf moves in legside and pulls the ball to long on with some fashion
17.1 Mohammad Shami to Shane Robert Watson
1 Full at the stumps from Shami, Watson backs away looking to hit straight, he gets an edge on the ball and takes a single over point

16.4 Chris Jordan to Francois du Plessis
4 FOUR!!!! Full toss ball in the off, and Faf in this form can hit this ball with blind folds on. The batter lofts the ball over point region.

1 Wide yorker and Watson square cuts for a single in covers
16.2 Chris Jordan to Francois du Plessis
