So thats all from here folks. It was a pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. Till the next time, tata from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my colleague Akshay Bhide. Stay tuned for tomorrow's double header. Good Night folks
It was a great match yet again in Sharjah. We have already seen more than 1300 runs in 3 matches at Sharjah so far and it shouldn't be any different between Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Shreyas Iyer, the Man of the Match and the winning captain: "It is rally difficult to defend here. Such an amazing total but still. It is always a thrill to come and play here. Winning the match is an icing on the cake. I thought today was the right time to take the bowlers on on a smaller ground. I took it one six at a time. I won't say I am a gifted player because I know the hard work and smart work I out into it. We keep talking about the close victories. This was one of them, and it is always satisfying. That after losing Mishra when he was bowling so well. We were confident we had two good overs left but you never know on this wicket at Sharjah. We have got a good platform, but we have to be insatiable from here on."
Shreyas Iyer is also the Man of the Match for his knock of 88 of 38 deliveries.
Prithvi Shaw is the Cred Powerplayer of the Match for his exploits in the powerplay.
Iyer is also the Dream11 Game Changer for the Match. He scored the maximum points in the fantasy league.
Shreyas Iyer wins the Lets Crack it Sixes Award
Eoin Morgan is the Super Striker of the Match for his heroics towards the later part of the match.
It was definitely a questionable decision from KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik to promote himself up the order. Morgan might have been the best bet there. In the end, it proved to be decisive. Karthik surely needs to get his act right. Given the ground dimensions of Sharjah, KKR could have waited for Russell at the back end and the decision of Karthik to promote himself backfired too.
Anrich Nortje: There was a little bit of dew. Myself and KG tried to get a few to go through. We did it at the start. It got a little bit tough in the end, the ball was coming on nicely. Proud the guys pulled it through. We had different plans, try to change it up, not go with the same thing over and over. Luckily we got him out. Some balls grip, one gripped and we got the wicket. It's great bowling with him (Rabada), really enjoyed. Nice to be in the same team with him.
Dinesh Karthik | Losing captain: The way the boys batted is something I am really proud of, we kept fighting till the end which is the nature of our team. Really happy with the effort we put in today. Maybe in between 10-13 overs we didn't get many boundaries, we lost a couple of wickets as well which sets you back in such run chases. To be honest, couple more sixes and we would have crossed the line, we wouldn't be talking about the lengths. I thought it was a hard wicket to bowl on and the bowlers did a fabulous job, maybe 10 runs too many but its okay. We trust him (Russell) and believe he is the best in the business, we want to give him enough time to create an impact on the game and that's something we want to encourage. I haven't thought about it (making the change at the top) but maybe after this game I will sit down with the coaching staff.. We still believe in Narine and whenever he gets going he gets us off to a great start.
After the dismissal of Shaw, it was Rishabh Pant and Iyer who literally belted the KKR bowlers all around Sharjah and helped DC post a huge total of 228 on the board. Iyer looked in sublime touch and was middling almost every balls. In the end he remained unbeaten on 88 of just 38 deliveries which propelled them to a match-winning score in the end. The score of 227 proved to way too big in the end but Morgan and Tripathi kept KKR in the run chase for a good part. An exciting game nonetheless for the fans. However the KKR supporters will be a tad disappointed.
Earlier in the day, the team winning the toss again put the opposition in and yet again it proved to be a wrong decision. This time it was Dinesh Karthik who put DC in. They began on a rollicking fashion owing to some exceptional hitting by Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. After the dismissal of Dhawan, it was Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer who batted brilliantly to take DC to a position of comfort
It was sensational bowling from DC in the middle overs but after the wicket of Pat Cummins, KKR clawed their way back into the game courtesy some exceptional hitting from Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi. The latter smashed Marcus Stoinis for 3 sixes in the 16th over and in the next over, Morgan took the onus on himself and thrashed Kagiso Rabada for 3 sixes which yielded 23 runs in the end. The dismissal of Morgan in the penultimate over proved to be the final nail in the coffin for KKR as they eventually fell short by 18 runs.
KKR lost Sunil Narine pretty early but Shubhman Gill and Nitish Rana forged a good partnership between them which kept KKR in the game. Gill looked in good touch and Rana also played some delightful shots to get KKR going. The ploy to go with Andre Russell at No 4 didn't quite work for KKR as he was dismissed after belting just two sixes. It was Kagiso Rabada who roared back strongly to remove the most dangerous player from KKR
So, in the end, it was Delhi Capitals who managed to held onto their nerve and snatched a 18 runs victory against the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders Despite a valiant effort at the back end by Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi, KKR just fell short in the end. The heroics of Morgan and Tripathi again made a match out of it from a position where KKR were totally down and out. Eventually Marcus Stoinis bowled a sensational final over and the penultimate over bowled by Anrich Nortje proved to be a game changer in the end. The wicket of Eoin Morgan turned the match on its head
