So that's all from here folks. Till the next time, tata from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my colleague Karthik Raj. Good night and stay tuned to tomorrow's big clash between the Chennai Super Kings and the Sunrisers Hyderabad
Kieron Pollard | Player of the Match: Feels good. We were on the losing side last game, so we want to come out on the right side today. It's about what's there in front of you. Look at the bowlers and see how many you want to get, 15 off the over and then you try to go hard. Today he had to come and swing and he showed his prowess. We know sky is the limit in the last 4 overs. Yes the Sharjah boundaries are small, but we got to hit them right and execute really well with the ball too. We can bask in glory
Rohit Sharma | MI Captain: Was a great win. We didn't start really well, but we always knew with the kind of attack Punjab had we wanted to capitalize. Those two guys they back themselves to get the runs, it's nice to have them in form as well. It wasn't going to be easy with the ball against KXIP batting line-up. We knew we had to get early wickets and everything went to plan, credit to the bowlers. The last game the execution wasn't exactly right at the death with the ball. So we discussed and wanted to improve. I haven't played enough with Boult and Pattinson, so it's difficult to get them on the same page. They have now got an idea of what I need from them and I got to know them better too. Feels nice to get the runs, but the two points matter more.
Sheldon Cottrell is the Cred Powerplayer of the Match for his spell of 1/17 in the powerplay. He bowled very well upfront and got the prized wicket of Quinton de Kock
Kieron Pollard gets the Unacademy Lets Crack it Sixes Award, he smashed 4 sixes, including a 97 metre maximum
Hardik Pandya gets the Ultra Super Striker of the Match Award for scoring 30 of just 11 deliveries with a strike rate of 272
Rohit Sharma is the Dream11 Game Changer of the Match, 96 points in Dream 11 Fantasy League
Mayank Agarwal, Orange cap holder: We are not competing for the cap, we are just looking to play some good cricket. It doesn't matter who gets the runs, be it Rahul, Maxwell, Pooran or anyone else. Runs in the international circuit has given me a lot of confidence. In the lockdown I sat down and looked on how things will work in the T20 template. The thought is just about getting into great positions.
KL Rahul, KXIP captain: Obviously disappointing. Looking back, we could've been three wins out of four. This game, we made some mistakes. Important we come back stronger. Wicket looked good with the new ball. Don't know if it slowed up after that. Another bowling option would be nice - an all-rounder option who can bat and bowl well. Will be sitting with the coaches to decide if we want to play an extra bowler. Until and unless that orange cap stays with Kings XI I'm happy. He's (Agarwal) worked very hard and deserves that cap. I'm sure I'll take it off him soon.
After his dismissal, it was Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard who took the onus on himself to get the job done for Mumbai. Both Pandya and Pollard belted the KXIP bowlers all around the stadium and scored 44 runs from the last two overs. Jimmy Neesham was pretty poor and KL Rahul's decision to bowl out Sheldon Cottrell proved to be a decisive decision in the end. Neesham went for 52 runs in his 4 overs and the decision to give Gowtham the last over proved to be a disaster in the end. Pollard in particular smashed him all around the park and MI finished with 25 runs in the final over. It was indeed a match winning score by some distance in the end
Earlier in the day it was again the team winning the toss choosing to field. Yet again KL Rahul's decision backfired in the end. Punjab began with a began with Sheldon Cottrell uprooting the stumps of Quinton de Kock. After a good start Suryakumar Yadav was also dismissed pretty early. Rohit Sharma, after a relatively slow, took on the Punjab bowlers with disdain and smashed 70 of just 45 deliveries.
Mayank Agarwal gets the Orange Cap Award and he gets past his captain KL Rahul to wear the cap
After a relatively poor start to the tournament, Bumrah roared back to form with a sensational spell and this will surely give him a lot of confidence going into the tournament. Nicholas Pooran played a good hand and looked in ominous touch but his wicket was the final nail in the coffin as far as Punjab was concerned. The spinners were quite brilliant for MI and in the end the score of 191 proved to be way too big in the end for Punjab
The target was always going to be steep for the Kings XI Punjab. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul began pretty well and found the boundaries on a consistent basis. After a great start, it was Jasprit Bumrah who castled Mayank with a jaffa of a delivery. Karun Nair also fell shortly and with the wicket of KL Rahul by Rahul Chahar, it was just a procession of wickets and there was no way back for Punjab
So Mumbai Indians win by 48 runs, a thoroughly dominating performance from the most successful side of the tournament. After a close defeat, Mumbai Indians came back on track with a sensational all-round performance as they swept past Punjab by a huge margin
