So KKR leapfrogs to the 2nd position in the points table with a dominating victory. It was a pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. Till the next time, tata from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my fellow commentator Akshay Bhide. Good night and stay tuned for tomorrow's encounter between the Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians.
Shivam Mavi, Player of the Match: When I started bowling, it was seaming. So I thought I'll stick to normal lines and lengths. Before the game we thought it would be flatter. So I just stuck to a length. Have played against these big stars before, but I knew it wasn't coming onto the bat.
Shivam Mavi is the Man of the Match. Dinesh Karthik is his translator in the conversation with Pommie Mbangwa
Karthik, KKR captain: Wouldn't call it a perfect game. Lot of areas we need to improve. The way Gill batted, Mavi bowled, Russell batted. Also the youngsters going after the high catches. Archer bowled really well. Wasn't that easy a wicket to bat on. Couple of guys made it look better than it was. These boys, the journey they've been through when they're not playing, is a hard one. Putting runs on the board is what we thought was the best way to go forward on this ground.
Pat Cummins in the Cred Powerplayer of the Match
Tom Curran bags the Unacademy Lets Crack it sixes Award
Andre Russell is the Ultra Super Striker of the Match for his 3 big sixes. Strike rate of 171.43
Tom Curran is the Dream 11 Game Changer of the match, most points in the fantasy league
Kamlesh Nagarkoti: The situation was a bit in our favour when I came to bowl. Just wanted to keep my plans simple and execute them. I want to thank my family, the KKR support staff and everyone else who have stood by me. Many people like my family, Dravid Sir, Abhishek (Nayar) bhaiyya. There have been so many people to thank. It’s a nice experience to learn from Pat Cummins who is a really good bowler. I try to execute what I learn from him.
Steve Smith | Losing captain: Didn't quite go to plan. That happens in T20 cricket sometimes, we have a few areas to improve on, and keep moving forward. You could go one way or another, KKR like to chase. We planned to put their death bowling under pressure but obviously couldn't do that as we lost wickets upfront. Few of us still thought we are playing in Sharjah. It did (feel a lot different), the far side is a very big side and we didn't see too many balls going there and the other side is shorter. We probably didn't adapt to the dimensions and the wicket, also dropped a few catches which cost us. It is about forming whatever XI is best for the conditions we are facing, we will wait and see. Disappointing tonight but we need to keep moving forward. It wasn't a great battle (with Cummins), he won easily and spoke to him now and he said you smack those in the nets, sometimes you just get a good one.
After a good partnership between Nitish Rana and Gill, it was Rana who fell prey to some impressive bowling of Rahul Tewatia. Andre Russell was promoted up the order and he didn't disappoint smashing 3 sixes. However, his wicket at a crucial juncture of the game pushed back KKR a bit. It was Eoin Morgan who provided a much needed late flurry with a knock of 34 of 23 deliveries which eventually helped KKR post a challenging score of 174 at the end of their allotted 20 overs. In the end, the score proved to be a match winning one by some distance
It was Steve Smith who won the toss and surprisingly elected to field especially after teams batting first had won all the 5 previous games in the venue. KKR began well with Shubman Gill looking in ominous touch. Sunil Narine played and missed a few and eventually departed in the 5th over after smashing a four and a six.
KKR kept chipping away with the wickets and during the fag end of the innings, it was Varun Chakravarthy who spun a web around the RR batters and bagged two wickets. Narine also chipped in with a wicket but it was Tom Curran who smashed him for a few in his final over. Curran waged a lone battle towards the end and remained unbeaten on 56 but the target proved to be way too big in the end.
At the half way mark, Royals would have backed themselves to chase the target down especially after what happened in the previous two clashes. However, the fast bowling trio never gave them an inch and ran through their top order. It was Cummins who started off with the wicket of Steve Smith and from there on it was two young guns Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti who bagged two quick wickets each and there was no looking back for them. With the wicket of Jos Buttler, RR's chances in the game dipped quite a bit but after what transpired against Punjab, no one would have written off RR.
So a thoroughly professional performance from KKR as they notch up a convincing 37 runs victory against the Rajasthan Royals. A very polished performance from the two-time champions. The bowling attack was all over RR from the word go and the Royals couldn't find their feet what so ever. It was a rather shoddy batting performance from the Royals especially after two master class performances in the previous two clashes
