So that is all from here folks. Another exceptional game of cricket. We had everything, exceptional hitting to dropped catches to brilliant bowling and exceptional fielding. Not a script anyone will be willing to write? It was a great pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. Till the next time, me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty signing off on the behalf of my co-commentator Mohak Arora. Good night folks, hope you enjoyed another nail-biting thriller
"I wish I was AB to be honest (laughs). He was coming after a long break. The way he batted and some of the shots he played was outstanding. Getting stuck into the bowlers and only he can do that best. He keeps things simple and doesn't watch a lot of cricket. Enjoys his life and comes out here, backs his ability. He's relaxed and that's exactly what we want from him,"
AB de Villiers was too exhausted so he wasn't present there to receive his Man of the Match Award so Virat Kohli received the award on his behalf and spoke a few words
Virat Kohli | Winning captain: I don't have words right now. It was such a roller-coaster game. I think they played really well and patiently in the middle. It went down to the wire, we tried to execute the things we wanted to. We've got a close victory and these little things on the field, we really want to focus on it. I thought about who are the best guys to come back for twos and it was me and AB. It was all about stepping onto the field and taking responsibility. Fielding is something we need to work on. If we'd taken our chances, it wouldn't have been so close. It was a good match-up against Jasprit. Top quality cricket and games like these, people would love to watch. The changes that we made, make Washi bowl in the PP paid off. Gurkeerat didn't get a chance to bat. The guys showed good character. Outstanding Super Over from him (Saini). He used the yorkers and wide balls to good effect. This should boost us going forward.
Washington Sundar: I have to do the job for my team. Happy to contribute and happy to play such a game. I wanted to contribute in any way and I was glad I did it and doing it against such a team like Mumbai was very good. I can't say that and it's better of Saini to bowl (when asked if he wanted to bowl the Super Over). He (Saini) did an amazing job to restrict them to 7 runs. This victory means a lot.
Rohit Sharma | Losing captain: It was a great game of cricket. We were not in the game at all when we started off with the bat. Great innings by Ishan there and then Pollard was brilliant as usual for us. It is just that we couldn't start well, I thought we could chase 200 with the batting power we have. We didn't get the momentum in the first 6-7 overs and also lost three wickets. With Polly being there anything can happen, Ishan was also hitting it well so we had the belief that we would get there. Nothing to take away from RCB they held their nerve more than us. He (Kishan) was drained out and was not comfortable. We thought we could send him but he was not feeling fresh. Hardik is somebody we trust to hit long balls, it is not coming off but we are confident he can pull things off for us. I mean 7 runs you need to have luck on your side, we had to get wickets but there was also an unfortunate boundary. We came back really well and a lot of positives to take away from this game.
Earlier in the day it was Rohit Sharma who won the toss and put RCB in. It was a great start for them as Aaron Finch got off to a brilliant start. Devdutt Padikkal supported him pretty well and by the time Finch was dismissed after scoring a well-deserved half-century, he took the onus on himself to play the big shots. The southpaw scored his 2nd IPL half-century in just 3 matches. The match-turning knock was played by none other than AB de Villiers. He derailed the MI attack and smashed the best T20 bowler Jasprit Bumrah for 3 sixes in a single over. He scored a quickfire 54 and in the final over it was Shivam Dube who came into the party and belted James Pattinson for 3 sixes in the final over to take them past the 200 mark. It didn't prove enough but they eventually prevailed in the super over
MI was never in the run chase, to be honest for the first 15 overs of their innings. Washington Sundar was quite exceptional in the powerplay and got the prized wicket of Rohit Sharma. Quninton de Kock never got going and was dismissed after a dodgy knock. The RCB bowlers were all over MI in the middle overs and it required something special from Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard in the final stretch to help MI claw their way back into the game. Pollard and Kishan smashed 27 and 22 runs of the 17th and the 18th over to bring back MI in the match. Ishan played brilliantly for his 99 and almost got MI home. He smashed two back to back sixes in the final over but his dismissal in the penultimate delivery proved to be crucial in the end. However Pollard smashed a boundary of the final delivery to level RCB's score
Navdeep Saini was sensational with the ball in the super over, restricting MI to a score of just 7 runs required a special effort. He bowled in the perfect areas and the likes of Pollard and Hardik couldn't get under his deliveries. However with Bumrah to bowl the super over for MI, the four-time champions were still in the game. He bowled some exceptional deliveries but the short delivery which went towards the fine leg region for a boundary proved to be a big factor in the match. He could have bowled it full but as they say, there is no prize for trying. In the end, RCB was the deserving winner I guess, especially after dominating the game for 36 overs
I don't know how to sum this match up. Back to back matches and we almost witnessed another sensational comeback from the team chasing. You cannot write a script for these sort of matches. Any superlatives won't be enough to describe the comeback made by MI but in the end it was RCB who scraped past a resilient MI side in the super over to register their 2nd victory of the tournament
0.6 Jasprit Bumrah to Virat Kohli
4 A full-toss and Virat Kohli plays it between square leg and mid-wicket and there is no fielder there, a four to win the match for Royal Challengers Bangalore here. WHAT A MATCH WE SAW! EXHILARATING!
0.5 Jasprit Bumrah to Abraham Benjamin de Villiers
1 A world-class yorker from Bumrah and ABD inside edges it on his own shoe and the RCB pair run a single to tie the super over here. 1 needed now, will the out of form skipper do it here for his team?
0.4 Jasprit Bumrah to Abraham Benjamin de Villiers
4 Another shorter one and ABD slogs it up high in the air and the ball falls safe as there is no deep fine-leg and it's a one-bounce four here.
0.3 Jasprit Bumrah to Abraham Benjamin de Villiers
0 Another shorter ball and ABD has edged it to Quinton de Kock. He has taken a DRS review. What will the third umpire say? Nothing on the ultra edge and looks like ABD is safe here, he will fight this out. NOT OUT given by the third umpire.
0.2 Jasprit Bumrah to Virat Kohli
1 A shorter ball and Kohli pulls it away with power but the deep square leg fielder gets across and stops a boundary. Boult did a good job, saving 3 crucial runs.
0.1 Bumrah to ABD
1 A low full-toss played to long-on by ABD with ease as the RCB pair rotate the strike.
ABD and VK to bat against BOOM BOOM Bumrah. Let's go!
Aaron Finch is injured and might not come out to bat, he didn't field for any of the 20 overs with Pawan Negi the substitute fielder getting 3 catches in the bag.
RCB need 8 runs to win here. Jasprit Bumrah will be bowling for the Mumbai Indians most probably with the power duo of ABD and Virat Kohli to bat, Padikkal is also a good shout to open with Kohli out of touch in this edition till now.
