We, Arjun and Mohak are signing out for now but we will see you all, tomorrow at sharp 7 PM IST for Chennai Superkings and Delhi Capitals' match. Good night!
KL Rahul | Player of the Match | KXIP captain: As a leader it's important to lead from the front. It's a complete team performance, really happy. I told Maxi that I am not feeling completely in control of my batting, he said you must be joking, you are hitting really well. During the toss is the only time I feel like a captain and otherwise I balance being a player and the captain. The analyst, coach and the management will be happy. I watched the U-19 World Cup. He has a lot of fight in him. He's always ready when I throw the ball. He wants to get into the contest.
KL Rahul wins the Man of the Match award for his career best 132 not out.
Mohammed Shami | Purple cap holder: I am trying with whatever responsibility I have to deliver with the new ball, help my partners and trying to bowl in the right areas. We also have a good batting line up and our bowling is more improved this year. It is a young unit and even skill wise we are good. Depends on how the wickets are there (in Sharjah), if there is moisture we will try to bowl full and if it is dry we bowl back of a length. That will be the plan. We can only assess after reaching there and seeing the pitch.
Virat Kohli | Losing captain: Yeah it didn't (go well). I think we were good in the middle phase with the ball, they got off to a decent start and we pulled things back nicely. I have to stand in front and take the brunt of it, not the best day in the office, couple of important chances of KL when he was set and that cost us 35-40 runs at a later stage. Maybe if we restricted them to 180 we wouldn't have been under pressure from ball one of the chase. We know exactly where we went wrong and I have to put my hand up and say a couple of important chances went down. There are days when these kind of things happen on the cricket field, they happen and we have to accept them. We have had a good game, we have had a bad game and now it is time to move on. Learn from the mistakes we make. We did pretty well closing in on the second time out. Those are the moments, we pulled things back nicely so we understand how to do that as a team. He (Philippe) has batted at the top of the order for Western Australia and done well in the BBL as well, early days in the tournament so we thought we will maximise his ability and see how we go from thereon. We thought we will give ourselves a bit of depth in the middle overs.
I hope, both the teams set this tournament on fire as both the teams are my personal favorites. And, it would be great for the brand IPL. They both have power-packed batting but they both have a common problem too... death bowling! If RCB and KXIP solve this issue, they might fancy their chances of getting into the playoffs and finals as well!
RCB were absolutely thrashed here and the KXIP coaching staff is very happy with how they have started the tournament. What is your prediction for these two teams' fortunes in IPL 2020 Arjun?
Chasing 207, RCB had the worst start as they lost Devdutt Padikkal, Josh Philippe, and skipper Virat Kohli before reaching the team total of 5 runs. Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers tried to restructure the innings but the KXIP leg spinners ensured that wouldn't happen as RCB struggled to make 109 and were dismissed all out inside 17 overs.
KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started the match right as they played safe at a good run-rate without losing their wickets. Once Agarwal was dismissed by Chahal, Rahul stepped up and scored the most runs for an Indian or a skipper in an IPL match. His innings of 132 runs from 69 balls saw KXIP post a mammoth score of 206 on the board.
Kings XI Punjab have wrapped up the match with a 97-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
