This was us, Arjun Bhalla and Akshay Bhide from One Cricket signing out for now. See you folks, tomorrow in the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad at 7 PM IST.
Marcus Stoinis, MoM: t's a weird game, sometimes the luck goes your way, but it's easy to become the villain from the hero. So it's important to enjoy the good days. I try to close down the areas where the bowlers can bowl, and it worked today. It's important to feed off everyone's energy. It's nice that the IPL has gotten going again, and tonight has been great entertainment. I thought KG bowled a beautiful over, and I don't have any qualms about not batting in the super over - I think the left-right batting combination was the right thing.
Marcus Stoinis won the Man of the Match award for his matching winning 53 off 21 balls & 2/29 in 3 overs.
Shreyas Iyer, DC's Skipper: It was difficult to see the game turning in different directions. We are used to this. Even last season we faced these. KG is the winning performer, and the way Stoinis batted was game-changing. Our top-order batsmen are difficult to stop like Prithvi. It wasn't easy from the outset to start hitting immediately, and Rishabh and I batted well in the middle to anchor the innings. Catching has been difficult because of the lights right in our eyes, but that's not an excuse because we have had practice, so we need to strengthen that area. It was important for us to get wickets, since the total was small, and I knew if I saved KG's over for the end it would be helpful. Ashwin's over was a key one, and it changed the game in our favour, but that's what T20 cricket is. Ashwin says he'll be ready for the next game, but in the end the physio is going to decide. Axar was fantastic with those middle overs too, stifling the runs in the middle after Ashwin was injured. We generally go by left-right combination in the team build-up. The way Stoinis assessed the wicket and played that innings was commendable.
KL Rahul, KXIP's skipper: It is bittersweet. If at the end of 10 overs, if you had said this match is going to a Superover, I would have taken it. It's still our first game, so lots of learning. He (Mayank) was unbelievable and to get a game that close was magical. He's been doing well in Tests and to get the game that close again brings a lot of confidence in the group. Like I said at the toss, we didn't know what to expect. The wicket remains the same for both teams, so can't really complain. I will gladly take it as a captain whatever the result is. We stuck to what we planned but we did make a few mistakes. At 55 for five, we were calm and still positive.
Apart from these two batters, there were some impeccable bowling performances. Mohammad Shami and debutant Ravi Bishnoi bowled marvelous spells for KXIP. Then there was the 2 runs comprising super over bowled by Kagiso Rabada and the one over bowled by Ravi Ashwin where he took two massive wickets.
Truly, it was a hard-fought match between the two teams. We witnessed two extraordinary innings from two batman. In the first innings, Stoinis changed the match for Dc and in the latter half, Mayank did the wonder.
Then, it was strategical by KL and KXIP by not sending Mayank Agarwal to bat in the Super over. KXIP scored only 2 runs in the Super over and then it was almost over for them.
Mayank Agarwal scored 89 off 60 balls and he almost got his team home but Marcus Stoinis pulled the match for DC. He took 2 wickets in the last two balls of the inning and took the match into the super over.
It was KXIP's match to win. But, destiny had some different plans.
0.2 Mohammad Shami to Rishabh Pant
2 On the pads and Pant flicks this to fine leg. The fielder dives in and stops the ball but couldn't stop the second and Delhi win the contest. Delhi Capitals beat Kings XI Punjab in the Super Over
0.2 Mohammad Shami to Rishabh Pant
wd Wide. Down the leg and Rishab lets it go. 1 run from the ball. Now 2 runs off 5 balls
0.1 Mohammed Shami to Rishabh Pant
0 A short and wide ball and Pant flashes and misses the cut. A dot to start
Shreyas Iyer and Rishab Pant comes out to bat for DC and Shami will bowl the super over for KXIP. Can we defend 3 runs? It would be next to impossible to KXIP to do this wonder.
2 runs in the super over!! What the heck??? This has to be the slowest runs score in any super over ever. The target of 3 runs for Delhi Capitals. A strategical blind by KL and Anil Kumble for not sending Mayank to bat in the super over. It was KXIP's game to win.
0.3 Kagiso Rabada to Nicholas Pooran
W BOWLED' EM!!!!! Take a bow KG Rabada. Bowls this full and the stumps fly. Was in the slot and Pooran goes for a big slog and misses. So 3 required for DC
0.2 Kagiso Rabada to Lokesh Rahul
W WICKET!!! Short ball by Rabada and KL pulls it. He mistimes and midwicket fielder takes the catch
Nicholas Pooran comes out to bat in place of Mayank with captain KL. KG Rabada with the ball in hand. And Here We Go....
0.1 Kagiso Rabada to Lokesh Rahul
2 A full ball on the pads and Rahul flicks this to fine leg for a brace.
