So that is all from us here folks. It was a pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for the season opener. Till the next time, me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty signing off on the behalf of my colleague Akshay Bhide. Good night folks. Hope you had a great start to the IPL.
So we are done and dusted with the first game of Dream 11 IPL2020. It was a great effort from CSK to start on a winning note. Chennai Super Kings play their next match Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday while MI will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday.
Ambati Rayudu | MoM: I kept training in the lockdown. It was a stop-start but I was really eager. When the dew came on batting became much easier. We practiced in Chennai which really helped and then in Dubai as well.
MS Dhoni | Winning captain: It doesn't feel like a post match presentation. We may practice enough but when you go on the field you need to assess the conditions and give it your best. It took us time for the bowlers to find the right length on this pitch. Plenty of positives but still plenty of areas for us to improve. In the second half there is a bit of movement till the dew sets in. If you don't lose wickets, you have the upper hand. These are the learnings. Rayudu had a wonderful partnership with Faf. Most of us are retired so luckily no injuries as well. The experience pays off, everyone talks about it. You get it only after you play a lot of games. 300 ODIs is a dream for anybody to play and when you put an XI on the field, you need a good mix of youngsters and experienced players. You need the experienced players to guide the youngsters on and off the field. The young players get 60-70 days with the seniors in the IPL. One thing we haven't done is giving a chance to Jadeja and Curran to come up the order and express themselves which is what we did today. It was a psycological thing of saying that okay, we have batsmen down, so we'll send one or two of them up to hit a few. It is an amazing job done by the IPL, especially ones behind the scenes. To make it happen there are a hundred different things; as cricketers we easily criticize stuff. To have the practice facilities like these at the ICC academy were fantastic. Unless you get practice facilities you won't play well in a tournament like this.
Quinton de Kocks win Cric Powerplayer of the match
Ambati Rayudu wins the Maximum Sixes Award
Quinton de Kock wins Super Striker Award
Rohit Sharma | Losing captain: None of our batsmen carried on for us, like du Plessis and Rayudu did for CSK. I think we were 85 in the first 10 overs. Credit to the CSK bowlers, they bowled well at the end to pull things back. Something for us to learn. Still early days. We all want to start really well, it's crucial in this tournament where momentum is important. Few things for us to learn from this game, we did make few mistakes. Hopefully we'll rectify those and come out smarter in the next game. We are used to people cheering for us, and we knew this (empty stands) was on the cards. Anyway, this is new normal, but I hope for a while and hope that things get better soon. We need to adapt to the pitches, it got better with the dew coming. You need to hit the gaps and focus on that part of the game. The opposition can tie you down, it's all about understanding what we need to do.
Sam Curran: Very different. I have been used to the bubble with the England team. But you are used to seeing big crowds in IPL, so it was different. I haven't met a lot of the guys, came in a day before and was straight on the bus today. That was a good thing. I was very surprised that I went in. He (Dhoni) is a genius and thought something (about sending me before himself). We targeted that over (18th) and sometimes it comes off and sometimes it doesn't.
Earlier in the day, it was Dhoni who won the toss and put the hosts in. Mumbai Indians started off brilliantly with Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma looking positive. However, there was a break in play as MI lost two set batsmen and it was a grind from thereon. Surprisingly Saurabh Tiwary played a pretty impressive knock of 42 and provided stability in the middle order. Lungi Ngidi after getting smashed by Quinton de Kock in the powerplay made a grand return in the death overs and bagged 3 wickets to peg back Mumbai. In the end, 162 didn't prove to be enough. MI kept their dubious record of losing their first IPL match ever since 2013 intact.
Chasing 163 was never going to be easy and CSK found themselves in a corner when Boult and Pattinson accounted for two quick wickets in the form of Shane Watson and Murali Vijay. From there on, it was a great partnership of 115 runs between Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu which totally shifted the scales in favour of CSK. In the fag end it was Sam Curran who smashed a whirlwind 18 of just 6 deliveries which was the final nail in the coffin as far as MI was concerned. Du Plessis finished off the match with two fours of Trent Boult. It was a great performance and anyone who thought the Dad's army might have the worst season must start thinking differently
It proved to be perfect revenge for the Chennai Super Kings as they eased past defending champions Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets in the season opener. It was an exceptional all-round performance from the yellow brigade and they outplayed MI in all three departments in the end. The wait was finally over and we got a glimpse of MS Dhoni. However he wasn't required much as the bulk of the scoring was done by Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu. Sam Curran played the game turning cameo and it was one of the turning points of the game without an iota of doubt
19.2 Trent Boult to Francois du Plessis
4 FOUR!!!! And CSK beat MI by 5 wickets. A tad short and Du Plessis pulls this into the mid wicket region for a boundary. Du Plessis remains Not Out on 58 and finishes the game in style
19.1 Trent Boult to Francois du Plessis
4 FOUR!!! A poor ball from Boult. Bowls this wide outside off and Du Plessis slashes this over cut point for a boundary

5 needed from last over. Will MI create a miracle here?
18.6 Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni
0 A dot to finish the over. On a good length on the stumps and Dhoni works to mid wicket
18.5 Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni
0 OUT!!! A bouncer and Dhoni goes for a pull and flicks his glove on the way. Given OUT by the umpire and Dhoni reviews. Fair delivery and onto UltraEdge now. There is a flat line when the ball is near the gloves. And the decision has been overturned. NOT OUT given
18.4 Jasprit Bumrah to Francois du Plessis
1 taps into the off side for a run. 50 up for Du Plessis . What a sensational knock this has been from him under pressure
18.3 Jasprit Bumrah to Francois du Plessis
4 A slower ball and Du Plessis slaps this over covers for a boundary.
