Player Bio

At 17, when most of Waqar Salamkheil’s friends would have been worrying about their studies, he was playing his maiden Test match. He is a young quality wrist-spinner, a chinaman to be prescribed, from the land of Afghanistan.

Born in Kabul, Salamkheil earned a name for himself in his country during his maiden domestic season itself. The chinaman made his first-class debut in the Ahmad Shah Abdali Tournament and took a fifer on debut. The spinner’s debut season brought joy to him as he ended as the joint-leading wicket-taker, with a total of 55 wickets.

In 2018, the Kabul-born made his T20 debut in the Afghanistan Premier League and ended the inaugural edition by claiming ten wickets. His variations were applauded highly and he was soon compared to Tabraiz Shamsi after bagging an US$12,000 Mzansi Super League contract in 2019.

Later in 2019, Salamkheil made his List A debut, and finished the 2020 Shpageeza Cricket League season as the highest wicket-taker. His thorough success got him another contract. In 2020, he was picked by Peshawar Zalmi for the fourth edition of the PSL and then Amazon Warriors grabbed him for the CPL season in 2021.
