Player Bio

A middle-order right-handed batter, Lauren Down is a professional cricketer for New Zealand women’s team. Born in Auckland, she represents Auckland and Takapuna District Cricket Club at the domestic level.

Down scored an impressive century against the Australia Governor-General’s XI in early 2019. It was an innings that showcased the world the immense potential she possesses and can be a renowned asset for the White Ferns. On September 26th, Lauren Down alongside Rosemary Mair was offered their first-ever White Ferns contract. The reason she was included in the New Zealand Women’s Cricket team was her consistent performance for the Auckland Hearts team. Down made her WODI debut for the New Zealand women’s cricket team against West Indies on March 4th, 2018 but failed to capitalize on that opportunity scoring just 11 runs off 28 balls in a victory. Her T20 international debut came two years later on February 9th, 2020 against South Africa scoring just 6 runs in the only T20I she has played in that series. In the same month, she was named in the New Zealand Women’s squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup which ended in a disappointing fashion when they lost a must-win match against the Aussies by just 4 runs. Failing to convert her domestic performance into the international stage, Down is still a young mastermind who has the ability to turn the game on its head.
