Player Bio

One of the most mature and experienced players in the current Bangladeshi women’s team, Salma Khatun is known for her leadership skills and has earned the right to captain her side in the rebuilding phase of the Tigresses.

Hailing from the small town of Khulna, she grew up playing cricket alongside boys of her age group before being scouted by the Khulna women’s team.

Having made her debut in November 2011 against Ireland in ODIs alongside her mate Rumana Ahmed, she has seen success throughout her playing career with both bat and ball. The Khulna-born allrounder has been a star player in the shortest format since her debut in August 2012 against the same opponent.

Salma impressed heavily in both the limited-overs format and holds the joint highest individual score of 75 not out against India in an ODI fixture in 2013. Excelling with the bat, she is a splendid off-spinner which makes her a useful all-rounder. The star all-rounder was placed fifth in the ICC T20 all-rounder rankings just before the T20 World Cup in 2018. Salma holds the record for picking the most wickets by a Bangladesh woman in T20s scalping 66 wickets in 74 matches.

Her career-defining moment came in the 2018 Women’s Asia Cup when she led a youth side to their maiden Asia Cup title defeating the defending champions India in the grand finale. Known as the Woman for big occasions, Salma was the leading wicket-taker for the Tigresses in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup striking 6 wickets in four matches.
