Player Bio

A prolific top middle-order batsman who loves strokeplay and a part-time leg-spinner, Nasir Jamal has scored a boatload of runs in domestic and international cricket for Afghanistan national team.

At just 17 years of age after leading the U-19 side to the Youth World Cup, he made his ODI debut for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe on July 22nd, 2014. A healthy List A batting average and a decent start to his international career show positive signs for Nasir and for Afghanistan. He scored a match-winning 51-ball 52 not out against Scotland in the triangular series also featuring Ireland in the lead-up to World Cup 2015.

With the lack of consistency and knack for throwing it away, he was dropped from the side, and since then he has failed to cement his position in the Afghanistan national team. Travelling with the Test squad for almost two years, he got a chance to showcase his skills in the longest format against the Men in Maroon on November 27th, 2019. He was disappointing on his Test debut scoring just 17 runs in two innings. After the COVID-19 outbreak, Jamal was picked in Afghanistan’s Test squad against Zimbabwe and in the second match, he scored a brilliant 55 unbeaten to put the Afghans in a match-winning position.

Predominantly a red-ball player, Jamal hasn’t featured in any T20 game and has been sidelined from the ODI squad too. Nevertheless, with age being on his side, Jamal has enough time to bounce back in the limited-overs format.
