Player Bio

Andy McBrine is a right-arm off-break bowler who plays for the Ireland national cricket team. Cricket is in McBrine’s blood as his father played domestic cricket in Ireland.

A wily off-spinner who represented Ireland at the 2012 U-19 World Cup, but failed to impress with the ball in hand. Despite not performing on a consistent basis, McBrine has always managed to stay on the fringes.

The Londonderry-born was included in the Ireland squad for the 2014 World T20 Qualifiers and made his debut against Zimbabwe in the third match of the group stage. He impressed in his very first outing, scalping two wickets and giving away just 26 runs in four overs.

But he was less successful in his very next outing-his only over against the Netherlands that went for 24 runs, including four sixes in that one over.

In 2018, McBrine was named in the Ireland squad for their inaugural Test match against Pakistan, but he did not make it to the playing XI.

A year later he got a chance to make his Test debut against Afghanistan. He took 3 wickets in the match as Afghanistan comfortably won the game by 7 wickets.

In 2020, McBrine was one of the nineteen players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland.

His numbers at both the domestic and international stage are not that impressive, but McBrine has always found a way to crawl back into the Irish national setup. The off-spinner really has to work on his bowling if he wants to cement a permanent place in the shorter formats of the game.
