Player Bio

Spotted at a very young age, George Dockrell made his international debut as a 17-year-old and since then has been a consistent part of the Irish squad in the shorter formats of the game. He started out as a seam bowler but quickly turned into a slow left-arm orthodox spin bowler.

Dockrell was impressive in the 2010 ICC World T20 Qualifiers, picking up 7 wickets in four matches, including match-winning figures of 4 for 20 against the Netherlands.

He followed it up with another scintillating spell of 3 for 16 against the Windies in Ireland’s opening group stage match at the 2010 T20I World Cup.

In the same year, he signed a contract with Somerset and in his very second County game, Dockrell spun a web around the Middlesex batsmen and grabbed 6 for 27 to guide Somerset past the victory line. He finished the County season with 35 wickets at an average of 28.45.

Dockrell was included in the Ireland squad for the 2012 T20I World Cup. But he played in only two matches as Ireland were knocked out in the group stage itself.

However, his year ended on a high as the spinner was named the ICC Associate Player of the Year for 2012.

Dockrell was at his best in the 2013 World T20I Qualifiers and his performances helped Ireland qualify for the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. The Dublin-born made it to the Ireland squad for the World Cup and took just three wickets in as many matches as Ireland were again crashed out of the group stages.

The tall spinner made his much-awaited Test debut against Afghanistan in 2019. He scored a crucial 39 in the first innings and managed to pick up two wickets in a losing cause.

A talented spinner who has been around the Irish squad for the last decade. Dockrell was a teenage prodigy and was quickly fast-tracked into the Ireland squad. Dockrell is not afraid of big occasions and has the ability to churn out wickets at will.
