Player Bio

Coming through the ranks of the Dutch youth system, Pieter Seelar is a left-arm orthodox spinner who was spotted at a very young age and was fast tracked by the Dutch selectors. Seelar has played for Dutch under-15, followed by under-17 and under-19 level before making his senior debut.

He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2006 and went wicketless as Sri Lanka won the match.

Seelar was part of the Netherlands squad for the 2009 ICC World T20. Netherlands shockingly defeated England in their opening game of the tournament. Seelar dismissed Paul Collingwood in that match and earned praise from the cricketing fraternities for his performance.

Two years later, the orthodox spinner was part of the Dutch squad for the 2011 ICC World Cup. He finished the tournament as the leading wicket taker for Netherlands, with 8 scalps to his name.

During the 2012 ICC World T20 Qualifiers, Seelar was the go to man for Netherlands, registering 8 wickets, but the Dutch side failed to qualify for the main tournament.

In the 2015-17 ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Hong Kong, Seelar alongside Ben Cooper set a new Dutch record for the highest partnership for any wicket in a first class game and the highest sixth wicket partnership in the Intercontinental Cup, when the duo made 288 runs.

An excellent ambassador for Dutch cricket, Seelar has been the backbone of the Netherlands bowling attack for more than a decade now. He isn’t a big turner of the ball, but his line and length is impeccable which makes the life of a batsmen a little difficult.
