Player Bio

One of the finest batsmen Scotland has ever produced, Kyle Coetzer is a professional cricketer for the Scottish national team. Coetzer has played for Scotland at all levels and has spent a significant amount in the English County circuit. He has also led his side in the 2004 U-19 World Cup.

Coetzer made his ODI debut against England in 2008 and scored a duck. He had to wait for three more games and two years to notch up his first fifty, against England at Edinburgh in 2010. He followed it up with scores of 64 and 89 against the Netherlands to guide Scotland to a 2-0 win in 2011.

Coetzer smashed his maiden ODI ton against Afghanistan at Sharjah in 2013 and was named captain the same year. However, close to World Cup 2015, Scotland named Peter Mommsen as skipper and Coetzer his deputy in order to help the latter improve his batting skills going into the World Cup.

The Aberdeen-born batsman was the first Scot to score a century at a Global event, following his 156 against Bangladesh in Nelson in the 2015 ICC World Cup held in New Zealand and Australia. With an ODI average of 40, Coetzer has enjoyed spells with Durham and Northants, where he collected a range of honours, winning the County Championship, along with the premier One Day and T20 National titles.

Coetzer became the third Scottish international cricketer ever to receive the honour for services to cricket, following in the footsteps of former captains Jimmy Brown and George Goddard. He was awarded MBE in June 2019 by the Queen on her birthday.
