Bio
He was also part of the victorious Jamaica U-19 squad in the regional championship and also impressed with his big-hitting abilities. Campbell didn’t manage to make a mark in the two U-19 World Cups he played in 2010 and 2012. He did score a century in the final playoff game in 2012 to finally make his presence felt but his overall record was nothing to take notice of.
The Kingston-born was handed over his first-class debut for Jamaica in early 2014 and despite his consistency remaining an area of concern, the selectors kept investing in him due to the talent he possessed. He was eventually given an international call-up in early 2019 when he was included in the Test squad for the series against England.
He never looked settled on his debut match but did make amends in the remaining matches, especially for a batsman who was getting the taste of his first international experience. He was also included in the ODI squad and also got a chance to open with his childhood idol Chris Gayle.
Campbell scored his maiden first-class century in the 2013-14 Regional Four Day Competition but his international call-up came up only in 2019. In the opening match of the Tri-Nation Series in Ireland, Campbell smashed his maiden ODI century and along with Shai Hope he went onto share a 365 runs stand for the opening wicket which still remains the highest ODI stand in the history of the game. In the coming years, the left-handed batsman would want to cement his place in the Windies lineup, especially in the longest format of the game.
