A 6' 6" tall and beefy-built bowler, Oshane Thomas caught the attention of West Indies selectors on the back of his sheer pace and bounce. He created headlines in the regional papers after a series of various spells where he clocked deliveries in excess of 95mph, Thomas was selected for the Indian tour where West Indies bowlers have had a very tough time in the recent past.
As was expected of him, Thomas hurried the Indian top order who have been quite a dominating force at the start of the innings. He dismissed both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan on his T20 debut and earned the limelight for his raw pace and bounce.
Thomas was spotted as one of the emerging talents and the Rajasthan team management banked on him to produce goods by bidding for him at INR 50 lakhs ahead of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he couldn’t produce the goods for his side featuring in just four matches in his debut season. Although, he managed to pick up 5 wickets in the 2019 IPL, the Royals didn’t retain the big Jamaican and went unsold in the 2020 and 2021 edition of the cash-rich league.
Still a young prospect, Oshane is relishing the chance to play Test cricket as he wants to be counted among greats and knows that red-ball cricket is the route he needs to follow to realise his dream. His nature of being a furious pacemaker and fastest bowler along with all the physical attributes make Oshane Thomas one of the most important pillars of the West Indies cricket team in upcoming years.
