Player Bio

A middle order batsman, and an occasional medium pace bowler, Rovman Powell has been around the West Indian ODI setup since 2016, but has failed to cement his place in the side on a regular basis.

He rose to prominence in 2015 when he made his List-A debut. In his very first match, Powell showcased his all-round abilities, picking up 3 wickets and scoring 31 crucial runs. For his efforts, he was awarded the player of the match in his very first competitive game.

Riding on a successful domestic campaign, Powell made his international debut in an ODI match against Sri Lanka. He scored a quickfire 44 of 29 balls and showcased his hitting ability in his very first international outing.

He played a key role in Jamaica’s victory in the semifinals of the Super50 Cup in 2016. Playing against Trinidad and Tobago, Powell slammed 95 runs off a mere 45 deliveries, and picked up 5 for 36 to decimate the opposition. Even though Jamaica lost in the finals, Powell’s all-round performance made him a star in the Caribbean.

The following year, Powell was selected in the T20I squad to face Pakistan. He was in the squad due to his ability to change the gear at will. His T20I debut was disappointing as West Indies lost the match with 6 wickets.

For his big hitting abilities, Powell was roped in by the Kolkata Knight Rider for INR 30 lakhs in the 2017 season, but he did not get a game under his belt.

An exciting player who has done really well in the domestic circuit, Powell is generally known for his power hitting. His ability to bowl at a decent pace to go alongside his batting has made Powell a valuable asset in the shorter formats of the game.
