Player Bio

Evelyn Jones is an English cricketer who captains Central Sparks and plays for Warwickshire and Birmingham Phoenix in English domestic leagues.

Shrewsbury-born Jones grew up playing various age-group cricket for Shropshire. She is a left-handed opening batter who has formerly represented Lancashire, Shropshire, and Staffordshire, before bagging a contract from Warwickshire in 2020.

A 16-year-old Jones made her county debut for Shropshire against Northamptonshire where she scored a fighting fifty. She quickly became one of the most appealing players and was the county’s leading run-scorer in both 2010 and 2011 seasons. By 2012, the youngster moved to Staffordshire for better opportunities.

The Shrewsbury-born spent a couple of years to find her feet in the new county, but once Jones emerged, there was no looking back for the appealing player. She was again successful and ended 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons as Staffordshire's leading run-scorer. Jones was also the county’s captain for the 2016 season.

In 2017, Jones moved to Lancashire and was among the leading run-scorers as Lancashire sealed the domestic double, winning the T20 and 50-over titles in 2017. She was named the player of the year. And she was appointed captain of Lancashire women for the 2018 campaign.

Jones played for Loughborough Lightning in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Cricket Super League before joining Lancashire Thunder in 2017. She also spent her winter of 2017-18 in New Zealand playing for Canterbury’s One-Day and Twenty20 domestic competitions.

In 2020, Jones announced that she had signed for Warwickshire. The following year, when ECB’s very own The Hundred got underway, the Shrewsbury-born donned Birmingham Phoenix’s jersey.
