Player Bio

Frances Jonas is a left-arm orthodox spin bowler who plays for the New Zealand national team and for the Auckland Hearts in the domestic competition.

Spotted at a very young age, Jonas was picked in the Auckland Hearts squad for the 2019/20 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield campaign. The youngster was slowly and steadily brought into the playing XI and it was in the final where she really made her mark. Jonas took 3 wickets and troubled the opposition at regular intervals as the Hearts defeated Northern Spirit in the finals.

Her stock rose in the following season, where she completely dominated with the ball in hand. She took 9 wickets in the entire tournament and the world saw a star in the making.

After her impressive back-to-back domestic season, Jonas received a development contract by the New Zealand women’s cricket team and became the youngest player to receive a developmental contract.

After almost two years of performing heavily in the domestic circuit, Jonas was included in the ODI squad to face England Women in February 2021. Jonas went wicketless in her debut match as England won by 8 wickets.

Jonas was a surprise inclusion in the White Ferns squad to face Australia in a WT20I series.

A breakout star at an early age, Jonas has to be nurtured by the New Zealand team management. Under the New Zealand cricket setup, she will be under the guidance of some of the best coaches in the country, and the management will be hoping that Jonas ultimately becomes one of the top women’s cricketers across the world.
