Player Bio

A tall swing bowler and a middle-order batsman, Gareth Kyle Berg is a professional English cricketer. Born in Cape Town, Berg moved to England to pursue his professional cricketing career after playing a handful of games for Western Province B.

Born in South Africa, Berg has been a regular in the county scene since 2007 when he made his debut for Middlesex. In 2011 his outstanding season helped his side secure promotion, the right-hander averaging 41.87 with the bat and 19.96 with the ball that year.

The year 2014 was very much his nadir. Berg played one County Championship match in his seventh season at Middlesex, a shoulder infection needed seven surgeries in the space of two months and his contract at Lord's was cancelled with 12 months still to run.

Berg was part of the Italian side that took part in the 2013 ICC World T20 Qualifiers in the UAE, and he was named as the new head coach for the men’s national squad by the Italian Cricket Federation in January 2021. Berg, however, will be available as a player to represent the team as well, as he is also an active player in county cricket. He also signed a new contract with the Northants which will see the all-rounder at the club until the summer of 2022.
