Player Bio

An immensely busy and accurate seamer, Chris Rushworth is a domestic legend for Durham who has picked over 500 first-class wickets in a 17-year long career. Rushworth’s never-give-up attitude even when he was released by his home County as a 19-year old has seen him reach unfathomable heights in the English domestic circuit.

The Sunderland-born pacer arrived at the domestic stage in 2004 making his List A debut against Sri Lanka A as a 17-year old. Two years down the lane, he was released by Durham. Trying to find a new job, he impressed sufficiently to be offered a return and started all over again in 2010 when he made his first-class debut against Yorkshire in April 2010.

The pace bowler hit national headlines in 2014 when he managed nine wickets in an innings against Northants, completing an incredible 15-wicket match haul. He went on to be voted the PCA Player of the Year, one year later after taking 88 first-class wickets in the 2015 season.

The 35-year old broke the milestone to become the leading wicket-taker in Durham’s history with 528 scalps. He was visibly emotional but went on to add three more wickets against Worcestershire in May 2021.

An inspirational journey from nobody to one of the most successful bowlers in the club’s recent history, Rushworth has come a long way but his dream of wearing England’s national jersey is still a dream. At the age of 35, it is highly unlikely to see Rushworth don the light blue jersey but he still adds a lot of value to the Durham squad with his bags of experience.
