Player Bio

A graduate of the Somerset cricket academy, Edward Byrom is a Zimbabwe-born left-handed player who holds an Irish passport, and as a result found it easy to break into the English County.

The son of a former Zimbabwean sports journalist, Byrom moved to Taunton in 2015 and was signed by Somerset on a scholarship basis. He broke into the Somerset Championship side in 2017, but struggled to pile up big scores under his belt. After scoring a string of 40’s, Byrom finally managed to reach his maiden half-century in the final game of the season against Middlesex.

The 2018-19 Championship season was a touch better for Byrom, as he notched up 309 runs, including two half-centuries.

However, it was the 2019 Natwest T20 Blast where Byrom really came into his own. He racked up 185 in nine games at an astonishing strike-rate of 197. This form led to a contract in The Hundred with Manchester Originals.

The Somerset graduate has set his sights on making a future debut for the Three Lions. After a brief struggle in the initial few years of cricket, Byrom is now an integral part of the Somerset domestic side and will look to perform well in order to finally cement a place in the national side.
