Lungile Loots Bosman, a former cricketer, donned the South Africa jersey from 2006 to 2010. Lungile Loots Bosman, a former cricketer, donned the South Africa jersey from 2006 to 2010. A staggering top-order batsman, a part-time medium pacer, and an acrobatic fielder; meant Bosman earned the reputation of a T20 specialist. Born in Kimberley, the allrounder started playing at representative levels at the beginning of the 1997-98 season. However, it wasn’t till the arrival of T20 cricket when Bosman took his opportunity to play for the Proteas.
Debuted for Griqualand West as a 20-year-old, Bosman stamped his authority during the Pro20 cricket league of 2003-04 where he staggered 219 runs at a strike rate of 120.99 with a high score of 84*. Post his breakthrough season, the dasher went to play in South Africa A team for the One-Day tournament in Sri Lanka in 2005-06 and then earned his maiden call-up during the Australian T20I series.
Bosman made his international Twenty20 debut in February 2006 in Johannesburg and his ODI debut came a few months later against Zimbabwe in September. His all-round skill sets made the South African a precious prospect for the IPL scouts as he was awarded a contract with the Mumbai Indians for the inaugural season.
However, he could translate his potential into performance at the highest level. He was also selected to be a part of the Champions Trophy in 2009 but made it to the playing eleven in just 1 match. A year later, he once again donned the Proteas jersey in another ICC event when he had a horrific World T20 in West Indies, where he scored 8 runs in 2 games.
Three years later, in 2013, Bosman played his last first-class for Griqualand West as he retired after playing more than 350 professional games. In 2021, he once again played with his former colleagues when he played for the South Africa Legends during the Road Safety World Series, held in India.
