Player Bio

Chaturanga de Silva was a promising allrounder who never quite reached his potential at the international level. He delivers left-arm spin and has the ability to chip in with quickfire runs lower down the order.

De Silva made his international debut in the 2014 Asia Cup. He replaced an injured Rangana Herath in the squad and performed well with the ball in hand. Prior to his international debut, De Silva performed exceedingly well against the England Lions and as a result, the Sri Lankan team management decided to try him out.

Even before his national call-up, Chaturanga was hailed as a future star by the likes of Sanath Jayasuriya, who believed that the young spinner could turn out to be a match-winner for his nation.

Not only a wily spinner, but the Galle-based cricketer is also a handy batter and it was proved with a classy 44 against Bangladesh in the 2014 Asia Cup. He came in at a precarious situation and stitched a wonderful 82-run partnership with Angelo Mathews.

Over the years, his form dropped miserably and was eventually dropped from the national side. He had the backing of the Sri Lankan team management but failed to grab the opportunities with both hands.
