Player Bio

A tall, steady medium-fast bowler, Jackson Bird is a professional Australian cricketer who started his cricketing career playing in Sydney’s grade competition. After toling in grade cricket for several years, Bird joined Tasmania in 2011 for better opportunities at the state level.

Bird made an immediate impact with his new state, picking up 53 wickets in his debut Sheffield Shield season at an average of 16 and was awarded the Sheffield Shield Player of the Year. After a string of impressive performances at the domestic level, an international debut soon followed in the 2012 Boxing day Test against Sri Lanka. On his debut, he scalped 4 wickets and followed it up with 7 wickets in the next match at the SCG.

Bird was part of the unsuccessful Ashes Test series in 2013 and was dropped from the Australian Test squad. Predominantly a red-ball player, Bird has also proven himself for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL). After four seasons with the Stars, he signed for his hometown franchise, Sixers in 2015/16. In his debut season for the Sixers, he became a BBL champion for the first time and earned a recall to the national set-up during the 2016 tour of New Zealand.

Moving into the eleventh season in the BBL and also in the twilight of his career, Bird would be hoping to shed his valuable experience on the youngsters in the Sixers squad before hanging his boots.
